What better way to illustrate our special Forever Green issue than with a beautiful turtle? Note that this is not the well-known green turtle - the largest and fastest of the sea turtles. The one you discover here is the hawksbill turtle, smaller and recognizable thanks to its slightly more pointed beak. In the West Indies, and in Mayotte or Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean, it is known as a Karet or Carette. We meet them almost everywhere in the tropics and in our favorite dream anchorages. This particular turtle comes from Mayotte and its incredible and extremely well-preserved seabed. Unfortunately, our beautiful lady is in critical danger of extinction. Why? Because her beautiful shell makes her a target for poachers, and plastic in the ocean looks far too similar to jellyfish... We can’t wait any longer, it is our duty to clean the oceans. We can all make small gestures at our level, like cleaning a stretch of beach or the seabed beneath our multihulls.
