New record of 11 hours and 35 minutes in a sport catamaran under 20 feet
If you had your doubts that sailing - particularly at the highest level – is able to be practiced at any age, Dominique Tamalet and Jean-Louis Jeannin will convince you otherwise: the company director and the accountant, 58 and 63 years old respectively, have just set a new time for the crossing between Cowes (United Kingdom) and Dinard (Northern Brittany) in a sport catamaran under 20 feet.

The two crew, amateur skippers, set off on June 2nd, 2022 at 8:30 am from Cowes (on the north side of the Isle of Wight) to cross the English Channel over a distance of 138 miles aboard their Nacra 20. They crossed the finish line in Dinard some 11 hours and 35 minutes later. The previous record had been held since 2018 by Yvan Bourgnon and his son Mathis in a time of 19 hours and 42 minutes. “All conditions were favorable with good weather, flat seas, a wind of 15 knots throughout the crossing and excellent visibility,” explains Dominique. All that remained was to seize this great weather window and to push their Nacra to more than 25 knots at times…
