MC60 - Style and performance

Since first being presented at the 2018 Cannes Yachting Festival, the MC60 has seen three units built. Not a bad commercial performance for such an exclusive catamaran. The nacelle is designed ‘open space’ in line with current trends, but as for the rest, the MC60 is nothing like the others: a very specific topside form, high-tech mast support strut to distribute the loads, tempered glass panes, sliding side windows, no forward beam, sail-trimming flybridge set aft... it’s impossible to remain indifferent! In the hulls, the cabins offer volume and comfort without compromising performance thanks to a generous sail plan and superb centerboards.

SUNREEF 60 - Welcome to the world of luxury

The Sunreef 60 is undoubtedly reminiscent of her big sistership, the 80 - this model of the same generation is in a way the best-seller of the range. The exterior lines bear close resemblance, as does the flybridge, the vertical side windows and the coachroof-bimini shape. The interior (2,420 sq ft/ 225 m²), the saloon and the cockpit merge into the hydraulic platform, which extends them into a terrace. The cabinetwork is remarkable. The in-house design team has considerable experience in listening to customers: each unit is different. High rigid bulwarks, and forward interior helm station with panoramic view also characterize this model.

MOON YACHT 60 - Loads of volume - made to measure

While this imposing 60-foot catamaran discovered at the Cannes Yachting Festival may lack finesse in the design of its superstructure, it does offer exceptional overall volume for its size. The same goes for the sunbathing areas, which are absolutely gigantic. In this category, only the Sunreef 60 is able to compete with this new model unveiled at the Cannes show. This isn’t a totally insignificant comparison, because Moon Yachts also happen to be built in Gdańsk, like Sunreef... The interior layout can be planned according to the Owner’s wishes. An 80-foot sailing version and powercats have also been announced by the manufacturer.

SAMANA 59 - An ambitions blue water cruiser

The flybridge of the Ipanema 58 was already exemplary, and the one on the Samana offers incredible comfort with its 320 sq ft (30 m²). And the aft cockpit, hardly less spacious, won’t disappoint the first owners either... A proper blue water catamaran for hedonistic owners. This beautiful platform of marine leisure activities will work wonderfully at anchor (charter or private use for large crews) as well as under way for comfortable passagemaking at good speed. Three versions will be available: Lounge Maestro, with an Owner’s Suite and its bathroom, two double cabins, one cabin with bunk beds and three bathrooms; Maestro, with Owner’s Suite and bathroom, four double cabins and four bathrooms; Quartet, with six double cabins and four bathrooms.

OCEAN EXPLORER 60 - The prestigious signature of German Frers!
Test MW141

Since 1958, the Argentinean architect has been designing prestigious racing yachts, but generally monohulls... This contribution in the field of multihulls therefore came as a bit of a surprise in 2014, but also a success as we saw during our test. German Frers recently designed the Ocean Explorer 72 that we tested in MW180. The OE 60 is perfectly balanced at the helm and offers a subtle compromise between performance and comfort. The manufacturer has opted for daggerboards to reduce the draft to less than 3 feet while ensuring excellent upwind capability. The forward door and the helm station at the foot of the mast are two formulas nowadays adopted by most manufacturers of speed catamarans. The Finnish shipyard’s manufacturing and finishing quality is exceptional.

BALANCE 620 - Sailing before motors!

The philosophy of this new model is simple: as soon there’s 7 knots of true wind, the 620 will no longer need her engines... The shipyard has therefore planned a light, well-canvassed catamaran, so the strongly inverted bows are continued by narrow hulls at the waterline. The builder proposes keels or daggerboards - the second formula is probably more coherent with the spirit of the 620. The principle of doubleposition helm is retained, but this time with two helm stations - and two bench seats for two. Inside, we like the saloon and the cockpit table, both of which can be transformed into giant loungers!

KC62 - A sail maneuvering station at the mastfoot
Test MW172

Thanks to careful all-carbon construction, the weight of the KC62 is limited to 16 tons and the generous sail area guarantees exceptional performance. On the design side, we’re in the realms of Gunboat - which is obviously a flattering comparison. The layout is both spacious and well-lit: inside the saloon, you get the impression you are surrounded by glass; and a forward door leads to a new sail trimming position just ahead of the mast. And now the latest evolution on this model sees a hydraulic aft platform perfectly fitted between the sugarscoops.

DAZCAT 1895 - Designed for big speeds

The flagship catamaran offered by Dazcat is a far cry from the early British multihulls we remember from the 1970s that were narrow, low on the water and with little canvas. This 1895 really is quite the opposite! Built in PVC/carbon foam sandwich, the largest of the Dazcats should contain her displacement at 12 tons - 4 tons of payload. This model, designed with the collaboration of Ben Rogerson, is intended for long ocean passagemaking. The helm transmission from the wheel has been studied for optimum control at high speed, and the same goes for the deck hardware. The idea is to have the potential of a raci

O YACHTS CLASS 6 - Two hulls or three?
Test MW177
2021 Multihull of the Year Winner

Seen from ahead, between the hulls, the central longitudinal beam of the new Class 6 is intriguing… We’re not talking about the famous central rostrum so dear to Privilège, but something completely new. The structure is called the Spine Concept: this configuration takes the forces of the mast, stiffens the chassis and guarantees safety and finesse during possible high-speed water-landings. The hunt for weight is clearly evident in refined and modular facilities - 3 to 6 cabins. The same goes for the appendages: you can choose between curved daggerboards and lift rudderblades or fixed skeg keels. The futuristic design reflects the ambition for performance, not to mention the comfort and protection of the crew. They’ve taken advantage of new spaces such as the large aft platform under the elegant rigid bimini or the forward cockpit. The Franco-Latvian yard has already delivered two examples. There are three versions of this model available – Maxi, Performance, Race.

C-CAT 62 - Very attractive design and promising performance

The Italian shipyard C-Catamarans has set itself an ambitious goal with a 62-foot, all-carbon catamaran. This forthcoming C-Cat 62 will be taking on models that are already well-established in the sector of high performance, top of the range catamarans over 60 feet - Catana, HH, Icecat, Kinetic, McConaghy, O Yachts. It looks as though the project is being well carried out judging by the very attractive design - the two-tone coachroof and the design of the hatches are particularly successful. The sleek deck plan manages to reconcile sail maneuvering, ease of moving around on board and space for relaxation. The two raised helm stations and the retractable door also look great. The overhead hatches in the saloon will bring in a lot of light, and they fit into a slight reveal, helping to protect them under the tropical sun from ageing of the seals, which are highly exposed to UV rays, and the expansion of the glazing. Inside, the manufacturer is proposing from 3 to 5 cabins and numerous customizations, at the request of the client. With her 14-ton displacement for 222 m² (2,390 sq ft) of upwind sail area, the C-Cat 62 has a sail area /weight ratio comparable to that of a Gunboat. A guarantee of lining up 350 to 400-mile days under the trade winds...

OCEAN EXPLORER 64 - For the most demanding of sailors

This model announced by the Finnish manufacturer benefits from the experience of the 60 while integrating evolutions such as a longer waterline, a mast 4½ feet taller and set further aft by the same amount, deeper rudders and no skegs. The design is logically more modern, and the construction processes are evolving with the integration of prepreg carbon bulkheads and a new laminate floor covering. The deck hardware has also been redesigned to reduce loads and save weight.

ICECAT 64 - More elegant than ever

Following the seductive Icecat 61, the Italian yard has announced two new models, this 64 and the 72. The coachroof of the 61 with its wide uprights gives way to an almost uninterrupted glass and sloping surface, and the hulls are shaped with an upper chine. The straight bows have become logically inverted, and on each hull, a slightly raised helm station to perfectly survey the water - and the sails.

PRIVILEGE SERIE 640 - Full-on luxury, no compromises

This model is none other than the Série 6 that has been selling well since first launched in 2016. In fact, this was a half new boat since the deck mold is still that of the Privilège 615. On the other hand, the hulls - still signed by Marc Lombard - are new. Longer, taller and with narrower, straighter bows, they undeniably give an impression of much greater raw power than the 615. The carbon mast - designed by Lorima - is 4 feet (1.30 m) longer, giving an extra 140 sq ft (13 m²) of sail area for the mainsail and 20 (2 m²) for the genoa. Inside, the shipyard offers exceptional comfort and particularly the famous Owner’s suite in the central rostrum.

NEEL 65 EVOLUTION - Three flush-decked cabins!
Test MW144

On this flagship multihull in the NEEL range, the concept created by Eric Bruneel takes on a new dimension. Beyond the amazing presence of the flybridge on a trimaran, the saloon-cockpit platform space is truly stunning! The ergonomics of the galley are fantastic, perfectly adapted to the requirements of the charter market. A very comfortable guest cabin is located in each outer hull. Two others are located in the central hull - in addition to the owner’s suite. The interior, by Darnet Design, helps to raise this exceptionally large trimaran to ever-more upscale multihull superyachting. During our test, we found performance and the passage through the sea to be good. We like the garage for the dinghy, housed in the sugarscoop of the central hull: this is a remarkable and practical trick.

MC68 - Modern design and outstanding performance

Though the builder already offers an MC75, an MC100 and even an MC115, this forthcoming MC68 is sure to excite you, with its two-tone coachroof and its lines kept tight thanks to a continuous chine. You can see that the stepped side-deck - a McConaghy signature - is present, but it’s much more discreet than on some smaller boats. Also noteworthy: the hulls are completely hollowed out at the stern and the twin helm stations set as far aft as possible on the flybridge. The interior of the MC68 offers three guest cabins and one crew cabin as standard, with a four or even a five double cabin layout also available.

High-speed luxury is the ambitious program of the HH66. The talents of no less than Morelli and Melvin took up this bold challenge. As these catamarans are individually built, the possibilities for customization are almost endless, both inside and out. 2018 Multihull of the Year Winner

The flagship catamaran of the La Rochelle-based shipyard made its mark when it was presented at Cannes in 2018. Berret-Racoupeau have got it right: the elegance and modernity of the exterior lines as well as the style and quality of the interior fittings set a new standard for this type of offshore limousine. The flybridge is immense, the VIP cabins luxurious, the equipment and facilities adaptable to a program with or without crew. The owner’s suite with direct access to the forward cockpit is equipped with... a jacuzzi! Despite this level of comfort that you’d expect to find in a luxury villa, the 67 performs well. LAGOON SIXTY 5 - If you like the château lifestyle…
Test MW173

Another great new boat for 2020, but one unable to be presented public, for want of a boat show... This model is the sailing version of the SIXTY 7 powercat, but also the little sister of the much-noticed SEVENTY 7 - this one a sailboat. The Lagoon shipyard is thus confirming its appetite for the market of models exceeding 65 feet (20 meters), that until now had been the preserve of Sunreef - on the (almost) series production multihull market of course. During our tests, the SIXTY 5 impressed us with her performance and comfort. The manufacturer offers a wide range of semi-custom finishes.

GUNBOAT 68 - An already iconic catamaran
Test MW165

Gunboat - now French – are picking up on all the codes of the mythical American brand: the Gunboat 68, signed by VPLP, was the first model to be “made in La Grande Motte”. She was launched at the very beginning of 2019. Her program? Racing, obviously, and high-speed cruising. High-tech construction, curved daggerboards, interiors of pure luxury and multiple layout combinations, the “Guns” can be customized as desired. Other strong points: the maneuvering cockpit at the foot of the mast, inspired exterior lines and a generous sail plan - even playful with the bigger-mast version, such as on #1, Condor, that we had the chance to test. The manufacturer, which is able to deliver 3 to 4 units per year, is currently preparing the launch of the Gunboat 72V and the 80.
