LEEN 72 - A boat that can take you anywhere!

The interest of these new ocean-going multihulls is their very low drag. The Leen 72, like her smaller sistership, the 56, retains the principle of a vast platform sat above the three hulls, but adopts smaller and more aft-set floats than those of the NEELs, so that the deck plan, seen from above, is reminiscent of that of a monohull – a very wide one! Maximum habitability, panoramic view from the pod, low consumption, good behavior in rough seas: the 72 promises to be an ideal craft for long cruising or even exploration missions.

Long Island 78' Power - The oceans are her playground
Test in MW#176
2022 Multihull of the Year Nominee

Barely a year ago, JFA Yachts launched their very first Long Island 78 Power. The hulls designed by Marc Lombard are made of aluminum, while the deck, superstructure and wheelhouse use composite materials. With its two 500 HP Cummins engines, the 78 Power cruises at 12 knots, with six more knots to reach top speed. The objective, thanks to this moderate engine size, the large tank capacity and the extensive work that’s gone into controlling the displacement, is to offer transatlantic range. The deck layout presents some interesting innovations: the wheelhouse on the flybridge is an enclosed space intended for navigation but also for relaxation with a bench seat and a desk. This semi-custom range of motoryachts now features a new model, the Long Island 86 Power.

80 Sunreef Power Eco - Unlimited range

Sunreef have launched a new range with five models – 40, 60, 70, 80 and 100 feet – which are fully electric. The 80 Sunreef Power Eco, the first model on order from the Gdańsk Shipyard, promises silent, nonpolluting cruising and infinite range. Sunreef’s plan is to reconcile yachting and ecology: by operating a vast multiyacht platform, the builder has succeeded in installing 2,150 sq ft (200 m²) of light and ultramodern solar panels - producing up to 40 kWp of electricity. The 80 Sunreef Power Eco will also be equipped with a high-tech battery bank: 30% lighter than the batteries used in the yachting industry, with a density of less than 13 lbs (6 kg) / kWh with greater efficiency and performance. This fully customizable luxury catamaran can be equipped with a kite for enhanced performance and range.

Seventy 8 - A sailing multiyacht that's become a powerboat
Test in MW#161

The SEVENTY 8, flagship of the Lagoon powercat range is seeing great success. The aft third of the Seventy 7’s (the sailboat version) underwater hulls have been redesigned to accommodate twin 510 HP engines as standard. As for the forward trampolines, they have been replaced by a rigid teak-covered platform, bringing the usable surface area outside to over 1,600 sq ft/150 m2. The features are undoubtedly luxurious; the various design options - with meeting room or massage room - as well as several decorative atmospheres planned in the catalogue from the outset make this a semi-custom yacht in series production. They have retained the doo in the topsides of the owner’s cabin, which transforms into a terrace at anchor. The aft galley is remarkable, both for the crew and the owner.

Vision F 80 - Made in Turkey!
Test in Special Issue #17
2022 Multihull of the Year Nominee

Turkey’s boatbuilding industry has a long history and can boast some significant expertise - not dissimilar to Polish shipbuilding know-how... so it’s not surprising that a direct competitor of Sunreef, the undisputed leader in semi-custom luxury catamarans, is presenting a multiyacht recently built in Istanbul. But unlike Sunreefs, which are built in composite, the Vision F 80 is aluminum. On the foredeck, a crane can be used to launch the RIB, freeing up the aft platform. During our very first visit aboard, in Cannes, we were impressed by the volume offered by the nacelle and the cabins, but also by the level of finish - the teak deck, the floor and the endless sofas, for example, command respect...

80 Sunreef Power - Vaiable geometry loft
Test in MW#171

The 80, presented at the 2019 Cannes Yachting Festival, is undoubtedly one of the most popular multiyachts in this size range – Rafael Nadal bought himself one last year. To begin with, the 80 Power is frankly imposing: no less than 10 feet (three meters) between the waterline and the guardrails. The bulwarks are raised for greater safety. As for the forward cockpit, this is accessible from the saloon through a watertight door. This unusual amount of freeboard allows for a very impressive interior volume: the headroom is well over 6’7” (2 meters) throughout. The owner’s cabin is arranged as a huge suite in the starboard hull or on the main deck. The range of fittings, entirely customized, is infinite, with the galley either in the nacelle or in the hulls, the only constraints being the structural bulkheads.

Licia C24 Explorer - The comfort of a 150-footer!

The idea here is to start from the concept of a 50-meter (150-foot) yacht with all the advantages of the incredible space of these gigantic units and... to fit it onto hulls half that length! Most of all, it’s the nacelle where the Licia, built in composite (carbon/ aramid/epoxy) shows all her originality. There’s an owner’s cabin or two VIP cabins, forward, with panoramic views over the anchorage. There’s also a saloon with a bar and dining area, while the companionways are spiral - as on megayachts - to avoid steep stairs. The architects have worked hard on moving around on board, allowing guests to leave and/or enjoy their private space without meeting crew members or other guests if they so choose… With a pair of Cummins QSM11 10.8 liter, 705 HP motors as standard, and some 2,600 US gal (10,000 l) of fuel tank capacity, the Licia C24 Explorer has a range of 3,200 nautical miles. Which should be enough to justify the boat’s name, and to set off and explore the world in the greatest of comfort.

Metal Shark M48 - An 11,000-mile range
Specializing in aluminum and steel shipbuilding, Metal Shark Yachts is far from being a new player in the sector: the 500 employees of this US-based shipyard produce more than 200 boats from 16 to 300 feet every year. Usually, these units are intended for professional use, but the shipyard is now working on a new range of expedition powercats - the M30, M48 and M70. It was the M48 that was launched just a year ago, making this catamaran the very first yacht to be built by the shipyard. The hull shapes designed by Incat Crowther are optimized for maximum speed and range: 27 knots at top speed, and a range of 11,000 nm at 10 knots! The design makes a nod to military vessels, but comfort is well and truly on board: nearly 4,300 sq ft (400 m²) of living space is available to the crew…

Triexplorer - 6,000-mile range
Marcelo Penna Yacht Design, based in Barcelona, Spain, has unveiled a 185-foot (56.65 meter) exploration trimaran. The design, featuring a long central hull and shorter floats, was chosen for three reasons - to have a deck area of more than 6,000 square feet (600 m²), to limit fuel consumption (6,000-mile range) and to ensure perfect stability. The Triexplorer, designed to explore the most remote areas of the planet, will be built in aluminum for greater strength. The trimaran also guarantees a minimal environmental impact thanks to diesel propulsion combined with a hybrid system. The multiyacht will also be equipped with a large area of solar panels. Comfort is guaranteed for the owner: there will be a spacious dedicated suite with office, lounge and private pool. The Triexplorer can accommodate up to 12 guests, who will enjoy a gym, a sauna, a library and even a cinema. The deck has been designed to accommodate several tenders, a helipad, a permanent helicopter hangar, a submarine, a diving area and a beach club area. The maximum speed will be 20 knots (with a 15-knot cruising speed). A crew of 20 is expected to be aboard for operating this multiyacht.

Shadowcat Haven - A cat with excellent health protection
Reality or science fiction? At a time when medical advances are leading us to a way out of a health crisis, naval architects Incat Crowther have designed a support vessel for avoiding the worst in terms of contamination from contagious diseases aboard mega-yachts and even cruise ships. What’s the idea? To have a unit that acts as a buffer between the main ship and the outside world to keep COVID-secured social bubbles on board. The ShadowCAT Haven exploits its multihull configuration to set up two separate zones in terms of potential risk of infection. The vessel will be equipped with all the latest testing equipment, as well as strategically positioned thermal cameras to detect any signs of infection. The air conditioning and circulation systems will be combined with “nanotechnology surfaces” that destroy viruses and bacteria. However, in the absence of any health risks, Haven is user-friendly and practical, and includes a jet ski storage area, a submarine, a dive center and decompression chamber, and even a heliport. Offices and a research laboratory can be set up on board.

White Rabbit - The biggest trimaran in the world
Just over two years ago now, Australian superyacht builder Echo Yachts, headed by Mark Stothard, launched the world’s largest trimaran - and also the largest yacht ever built in Australia - on behalf of an experienced owner. He has several other multihull superyachts, including the first, White Rabbit Echo, a 200-foot (61-meter) trimaran launched in 2005. In her 275’ (84m), White Rabbit houses more than 12,900 sq ft (1,200 m²) of sumptuous accommodation where luxury and innovation are omnipresent. Powered by a state-of-the-art 2 x 2100 hp Kongsberg / STADT and Rolls Royce diesel-electric combination, she can reach a maximum speed of 19 knots. Her maximum range of 5,000 miles at 13 knots is made possible by a fuel consumption of 116 US gal (440 liters) per hour. A value that may seem enormous... but is in fact very low for the size and tonnage of this ship.

Echo Yacht 112 Power - A 112-foot multiyacht equipped with electric motors

Marc Pajot is presenting his latest project, due to be built by the Wider shipyard: this is a luxury 112-foot catamaran with 100% electric pod-propulsion by pod. The design is reminiscent of the Eco Yacht 110 presented last year; no surprise given that the 112 is the motor version. The drivetrain will comprise at least 2 x 350 kW, with a battery bank that should allow the multiyacht to cover about 30 nm in coastal waters with zero emissions. Once offshore, 220 kWh generators will take over in order to maintain a cruising speed of 12 knots - 16 at top speed. However, 1,075 sq ft (100 m²) of solar panels will provide sufficient power for on-board consumption without having to resort to the generators. The architect Nicolas Fauroux and the builder Wider are working on hydrogen energy production options to further improve the C02 balance. Foils are also being studied. A look at the plans suggests exceptional comfort: In addition to the two VIP aft cabins, two others are installed forward in the nacelle, with breathtaking views over the water. The pilot house is located on the upper deck so that the captain can enjoy perfect visibility. All the finishing touches of this exceptional platform of nearly 5,500 sq ft (500 m²) of usable space can be specified by the client.

Spaceline Concept 86 - Three decks and an XXL-sized flybridge

Italian design and Spanish construction: that’s the recipe announced for this new tripledecked catamaran. 2,700 sq ft (250 m²): that’s the incredible area of the flybridge on this 86-foot multiyacht. The living space offered by the Spaceline Concept 86 is almost double the usual figure that you would expect to find on a catamaran of this length, and the massive flybridge gives an idea of the Space Concept that the designers have incorporated into this model. The living spaces and cabins have been designed in the spirit of a luxury hotel. As for the engine rooms, hybrid propulsion is recommended. The builder announces an excellent quality/price ratio - a rather rare and offbeat preoccupation in the multiyacht market.
