Gemini Freestyle 399 Power - Ideal day-boat

True to the philosophy of all their models, Gemini have kept the beam of their powercat low - less dockspace required and the possibility of using most inland waterways. The 399 Power is a clever evolution of the Freestyle 37: with its center console, the Freestyle features an astonishing deck space. The hulls have evolved to facilitate planing, and the keels are reduced to limit draft. Two modest Suzuki DF90A outboards allow a cruising speed of 15 knots and 22.5 knots at full throttle.

Bali Catspace MY - Integral deck and pivoting door

This new model is pretty close in size to her bigger sister, the 4.3 MY. But look a little deeper and you’ll see this powercat has less volume – 758 sq ft (70.4 m²) of usable space as opposed to 894 sq ft (83.1 m²) for the 4.3 – and is noticeably cheaper. The platform is based on the sailing version but with completely redesigned hulls, and then topped with an imposing - but nevertheless harmonious - flybridge, accessible from both sides. The philosophy of this Catspace MY is to further optimize the Bali concept - open volumes, ease of use, comfort - by exploiting 100% of the available deck space. The choice of engines ranges from 2 x 150 to 2 x 250 HP. With whichever option, priority is given to range with up to 370 US gal (1,400 liters) of fuel and 185 US gal (700 liters) of water. The Catspace MY prototype was splashed at the beginning of the year, but the builder is set on refining the interior finish and the efficiency of the drivetrain before having an official launch.

MY5 - The volume of a 50-foot monohull

Launched three years ago to fill the gap between the 37 and the 44, the MY40 didn’t escape the overhaul of the motoryacht range – and has become the upgraded MY5. The contemporary and dynamic design features sculpted topsides and stepped bows. The flybridge is particularly large, with a lounge, a sunbathing area, the essential cockpit and a proper outdoor galley. A forward cockpit further enhances the exterior spaces. From the inside, the 360-degree view allows you to cruise, sheltered in complete serenity, within earshot of the rest of the crew. The beautiful galley provides the link with the large cockpit, which in turn opens onto the large optional aft platform. The owner’s suite on the port side is well-worth a look, with two guest cabins on the starboard side. The choice of a moderate cruising speed promises a good range (in excess of a thousand miles) whichever Volvo IPS drivetrain is chosen.

Bali 4.3 MY - For the fun of it!
Test in MW#168
![]() |
The first powercat from Bali has seen great commercial success, with over thirty units ordered in less than three years. We liked the original design with a marked drop-off at the back of the hulls, the super comfortable flybridge and of course all the particular features of a Bali: pivoting/tilting rear door, retractable windows, large cabins and huge refrigerator. And our test model, after her 2,000-mile trip around Spain, was able to demonstrate her nautical qualities and reliability.

With her metallic hulls, underwater lights, white leather bucketseats, carbon black T-top, full teak deck, forward cockpit, and bathroom worthy of a 5-star hotel, the 40 Open has done nothing to go unnoticed. Flash Cat 43 - Discreet, but already a classic...

Launched some six years ago now, this powercat built in Valencia, Spain, is derived from the previous model: it has kept the same rather successful lines with its evolutive deck form while seeing many additional features - aft platform, large 195 sq ft (18 m²) flybridge, and redesigned owner’s bathroom. Powered by two 170 to 350 HP diesels, the Flash Cat cruises at speeds between 16 and 20 knots, with a top speed of 27 knots with the most powerful variation. The layout can be customized according to your wishes.

X44 Ecopower - The power is modest, the price kept tight
![]() |
An evolution of the Andaman 42 sailing version, the X44ecopower has hulls more adapted for engine use. Gilles Reigner, who has been at the helm of the Cathatai shipyard for the past three years, has opted for a sensible powertrain of 2 x 110 HP, or 2 x 40 kW electric (with 325 sq ft / 30 m² of solar panels and diesel generator) in order to comfortably do 15 knots and to keep maintenance costs under control. The roof over the flybridge is retractable in order to pass beneath bridges. The strong point of this model is its particularly attractive starting price compared to its competitors of the same length.

Elight 44 - Finally some proper 3D images!

Nova Luxe have just unveiled the renderings of their new 44-foot model that’s based on the (significantly re-worked) Scape 42. Specialist in hybrid motorized catamarans, Nova Luxe have retained the excellent Simonis/Voogd-designed hulls. Their Elight 44 looks like it’s going to be more powerful and even more comfortable: it will be lengthened, a large solar panel will be added, and a complete overhaul of the interior is on the program. As for the build, the hulls will still be made in South Africa, as will the installation of the bulkheads. The finishing and the installation of equipment will be carried out in Florida. The launch of the first Elight 44 is scheduled for the spring of 2022.

Aquila 44 Yacht - Best-seller on the powercat market

Like her smaller sistership, the 36, the Aquila 44 Yacht is one of those rare powercats to have been built in over 100 units. It’s the XXLsized volume of this model that surprises anyone who gets the chance to sail on her. At the heart of the range designed by the visionary Lex Raas, the Aquila 44 is above all a comfortable powercat: the living space offered easily seduces a hedonistic clientele. Ultimately, the three cabins offered as standard (4 cabins have been available since 2018), as well as the interior equipment, are perfectly consistent with its program - use in charter or for private cruising.

Mares 45 FT Yacht Fish - Two asymmetric hulls

This model is the “smallest” in the Mares range, a company specializing in luxury models - up to 160 feet. As always at this Florida-based manufacturer, the hulls are asymmetrical in order to offer better performance (up to 35 knots, 27 for cruising), more stability and lower fuel consumption. The 45 Ft Yacht Fish, as its name suggests, has been optimized for the most demanding of fishermen - from the Mares Motor Yacht version. This is evidenced by its huge aft cockpit, but also by the possibility for the pilot to see what is happening there from the flybridge. Other models available include the Mares 47, the 645 and the 65.

Hammercat 45 - Several deck layouts available

Following the 35 that we discovered at the Miami show in 2020, her big sister, the HammerCat 45, is almost out of the box... she keeps the same overall lines with wave piercing hulls at the waterline, a gullwing-shaped nacelle sitting high above the water, and the famous truncated bow / Carolina flare. Hammer Yachts offers different deck configurations so that the HammerCat 45 can be used as a sport fisher, a dive boat or as a mega yacht tender. As far as the engines are concerned, there’s no messing about: dual engines, Mercury 450 or 600, or twin Yanmar inboard diesels. With a fuel consumption much more reasonable than those of monohulls, she reaches speeds in excess of 50mph and cruises at 40mph in great comfort due the double stepped hull and high bridge-deck clearance. The first HammerCat 45 will hit the water fall 2022.

Aurea Yachts, based in Palermo, Sicily, offers a range of three elegant, high-performance powercats. To date, the Aurea 30 Cabin has already been launched: with a top speed of 48 knots, she would appear to meet the sporting ambitions of her designers. An Open version will be available later this year. And while the 38 Cabin, except for the hard top, will have similar lines to her little sister, the 44 Cabin will offer much more, with tilting bulwarks, retractable swimming platform and a shade cover integrated into the coachroof. Leopard 46 Powercat - In the wake of the 53 PC...

Robertson & Caine, with 30 years of experience in the powercat business, are launching a catamaran that’s larger and more comfortable than the 43PC – which is being dropped from the catalog. The new 46 borrows the design of her bigger sistership, the 53 PC. The hulls have been designed from the outset start as motorboat hulls. These feature very large lateral windows, while the forward windows of the coachroof are vertical in order to integrate the forward door more easily - all these windows are made in tempered glass for maximum clarity and to give good longevity. Inside, the new matt beige finish replaces the former gloss white. The 46 will be available in a 3 or 4-cabin version with special attention having been paid to comfort: wide, comfortable berths accessible from the side, increased floor space and improved interior lighting. The two engines – either 250, 320 or 370 HP - are completely isolated from the living area. With the boat in lightship condition, with the most powerful engine configuration, the maximum speed is 25 knots - 20 knots when fully loaded. The range varies from 250 miles to 1,500 miles depending on the speed. Launch for the first Leopard 46 PC is scheduled for this fall in Cape Town, South Africa.

Nautitech 47 Power - A convincing engine version
Test in Special Issue #14

First launched three years ago, the very first Nautitech Power is a direct descendent of the Nautitech 46 Sail. Like her, she is available in in Sedan or Flybridge versions and saw a complete restyling in 2019. During our test, this model proved to have excellent seakeeping qualities when under way. The 47 has a nice variety of programs: coastal cruising at 22 knots or long-distance cruising with a 1,000-mile range at 9 knots, the choice is yours. On board, the saloon/cockpit typical of the brand, as well as an understated, yet chic and efficient design. You could lose count of the outside spaces, between the flybridge, sunbathing area, forward cockpit, and even the aft hydraulic platform, as useful for carrying the dinghy as it is for use as a private bathing platform.

Elight 50 - 10 kW of solar pannels

On the strength of three years’ experience in the field of “electrification” of their internal combustion engine powered cats (see the article in this issue), Nova Luxe unveiled their first “in house” model just over a year ago, which has been further upgraded since. Rather elegant with a low deck line at cockpit level, the Elite 50 offers a beautiful living space and a huge flybridge. The flybridge is protected by a hard top, which supports 10 kW of solar panels - enough to provide enough power for 24 hours at anchor. The builder is also offering as standard a hybrid propulsion system with 55 kW electric motors and 80 HP diesels, though other combinations are possible.

Aventura 14 - Ready for big adventure!

Here is a 14 (meter) that really deserves to be a 15, not least because the length of the hulls is in fact very close to 50 feet, but also for the volume offered - it is impressive. For the shipyard launched by Eric Roger over 20 years ago with pocket catamarans such as the Aventura 23 and the 28 (whose molds were already those of other previous models) presenting a multihull as ambitious as this A14 is quite a challenge… On our first visit aboard, at the Cannes boat show, we were struck by the large foredeck and the cleverly designed flybridge with sunroof, the large fitted-kitchen style galley on the port side, the interior helm station and the forward door.
