A 5X in flax fiber for Roland Jourdain
Well-known French racing skipper Roland Jourdain is no stranger to biomaterials: for the past ten years, he’s been working with the Kaïros Environnement teams on the use of flax fiber as an alternative to fiberglass.

In 2013, he built his first 23-foot (7-meter) trimaran, Gwalaz, with this novel material, and she’s still in use today as a test platform. The sailor is moving up a gear with the order of an Outremer 5X, which will be made of flax instead of the usual fiberglass. Initially intended for performance and speed, the multihull We Explore will be minimally equipped to be light and fast. Her program will then be to carry explorers and support their various missions, whether it be research, innovation or awareness.
