A hydrogen fuel cell for zero-emissions boating
Hydrogen propulsion has long been held as a not-very-credible ecological ideal... But today, the technology appears to be being perfected: the famous German boat builders Lürssen have signed a first superyacht to be powered by hydrogen fuel cell technology - this unit should be ready for launch in 2025.

Cannes-based designer Alexandre Thiriat is also embarking on the hydrogen adventure: he is proposing the Corellian 110, a 33.5-meter (110-foot) catamaran made in recycled aluminum that incorporates a hydrogen fuel cell system in addition to electric propulsion and an array of solar panels. The multiyacht, powered by two 500 kW electric motors, should be able to reach a maximum speed of 18 knots. Its cruising range should be unlimited. The Corellian 110, designed for 8 to 12 people, offers more than 2,150 sq ft (200 m²) of interior space and 2,000 sq ft (186 m²) of deck space.
