Castlerock Carbon Cat : A twin-hulled RIB

Designed in Australia and built in New Zealand, the Castlerock Carbon Cat was designed by Dan Oatley, a member of an Australian family well known in the boating world. This catamaran RIB is built from an aluminum chassis and a carbon deck. Trim is controlled by a pair of trim tabs. Although this boat’s short length confines it to relatively sheltered waters, the top speed recorded with a modest 115 HP is still 60 knots…

V625 : Small all-purpose cat
This Australian powercat is very compact, but still has great seakeeping qualities thanks to its gliding hulls and generous bow volume. With a total displacement of 2,100 kg (4,630 lbs), it is easily transportable by road. The V625 is suitable for many uses: fishing, coastal meandering, family day trips... The cabin can be closed or remain open. Inside, two bunks can be converted into a double bed. This small catamaran offers different seat combinations, as well as an optional shower, toilet, sink, stove or refrigerator. For the roof, you can opt for a hard top or fabric protection.

BAGOU : Open, with zero emissions
First seen in preview at the last La Rochelle Boat Show, this power catamaran is original in more ways than one. First of all, the construction is in epoxy plywood, then, it has an open deck - no cabin - and finally, it offers efficient electric motors. During our test (to be published in a forthcoming issue), we easily reached 10 knots and were able to appreciate the hull’s excellent passage through the chop. The different power options will allow you to optimize speed or range. For those not so keen on this fine zero emission compromise, traditional internal combustion outboards remain an option…

V930 S2 : Open or with wheelhouse

Seen from the side, you’d swear that this was a motorboat like any other... but the view from ahead or astern, highlights the tunnel - very high - that clearly separates the two hulls. With fine-entry bows and well-designed hulls, the V930 S2 is at ease at both 10 and 40 knots and can handle rough water. The layout - cockpit, helm station and galley are of course all on the same level. The 930 is available in an Open version.

AQUILA 32 : Incredible space for its size

Following the remarkable success of its larger models, the yard is extending its range with this 32-foot boat with a sportier look. Offered with three outboard powers, the smallest of the Aquila boats reaches more than thirty knots, or even nearly forty with the two 300 HP engines - the power we would recommend. The huge cockpit and the unique aft platform offer safety and comfort. The interior is not forgotten: it allows you to enjoy coastal cruising in good conditions with a headroom of 184 cm (6’) under the deck, a proper cabin and separate heads compartment. A foiling version is already under consideration.

AVENTURA 10 Power : All the comfort of a 40-footer!

In a market where many players are concentrating on the 45-foot range, it’s comforting to see Aventura Catamarans offer a real motor cruising catamaran of “only” 10 m (33’). It offers everything you’d find on a big boat however, with a forward cockpit, flybridge, a large saloon/galley with sea view, and is available in 3 or 4-cabin versions. For the cockpit, three versions are available; and for the engines, the choice is between two outboards from 150 to 300 HP, or two inboards from 110 to 250 HP.

V1040 Explorer : An economical cruiser
Following the success of the lengthened V1100 Discovery, the original V1040 has been reconfigured into a sedan, meaning without a flybridge. Moving around on board has become more fluid and the large coachroof surface area allows for the installation of numerous solar panels. This semi-displacement catamaran is powered by two economical diesel engines: the philosophy of this model is good seakeeping behavior and long range. The Explorer has three cabins: 6 to 8 people can sleep aboard.

AQUILA 36 : Day boat, but also for cruising…

The great success of the Aquila 36 - elected MOTY 2018 in its category - in less than three years on the market, demonstrates, if there was any need, the validity of the concept of a motor catamaran with a more day-boat type orientation. Compared to its 32-foot little brother, the 36 makes it possible to plan slightly longer stays on board, with its two cabins and two bathrooms as standard. The performances are those of a sportsboat, as we're approaching 40 knots top speed!

MY 37 : The power of a yacht, the comfort of a catamaran!

Unlike most of its direct competitors, who use the hull molds and accommodation of their sailing catamarans as the basis for a power version - or one without a mast, as we prefer to say - Fountaine-Pajot designs a specific model. As a result, the beam is much narrower: 5.10 m (16’9”) for this MY 37 compared to 6.63 m (21’9”) for the Lucia 40. These few inches will lighten marina costs. Admittedly, the decks are less wide, closer to the standards of single-hulled boats... but the living space doesn’t suffer: the MY 37 matches the same specifications of her big sisters in terms of comfort. The facilities are particularly attractive for this size, especially the beautiful port-side owner's suite. The range of performances is capable of seducing all audiences: a top speed of 20 knots on the one hand, a range of 1,000 miles at 7 knots on the other.
Shipyard: Fountaine Pajot
Length: 11 m (36’1”)
Beam: 5.15 m (16’11”)

V1100 Discovery : For cruising and for charter

With its specially designed hulls to limit drag - and therefore save fuel - the V1100 Discovery is above all easy to handle, stable and versatile. This powercat is ideal for fishing, family outings, offshore cruising and charters. Equipped with shaft-driven diesel engines from 125 to 250 HP, the V1100 can exceed 25 knots - its optimal cruising speed is 15-20 knots. A luxuriously furnished interior can accommodate six to eight people in three cabins. The well-ventilated nacelle includes a saloon, a raised saloon-dining area and a galley - which overlooks the large, fully equipped cockpit. A molded staircase provides easy access to the flybridge.

MY 40 : Cruising can be fun!

A year ago now, Fountaine Pajot presented the MY 40, filling the gap between the 37 and the 44. The design is more contemporary, dynamic, with its sculpted topsides and stepped bows. The flybridge is particularly large, with a lounge, a sunbathing area, the essential cockpit and a proper outdoor galley. A forward cockpit further enhances the exterior spaces. From the inside, the 360-degree view allows you to cruise, sheltered in complete serenity, within earshot of the rest of the crew. The beautiful galley provides the link with the large cockpit, which in turn opens onto the large optional aft platform. The owner's suite on the port side is well-worth a look, with two guest cabins on the starboard side. The choice of a moderate cruising speed means a good range for all Volvo IPS engines.

Bali 4.3 MY : For the fun of it!

This newcomer - nominated for the Multihull of the Year 2020 election - should be a great commercial success judging by the excitement she generated during her initial public presentations. We appreciated the original design with a marked drop-off at the back of the hulls, the super comfortable flybridge and of course all the particular features of a Bali: pivoting/tilting rear door, retractable windows, large cabins and huge refrigerator. And our test model, after her 2,000-mile trip around Spain, was able to demonstrate her nautical qualities and reliability.

LEOPARD 43PC : A 50-footer’s got nothing on this boat!
To replace the 39, Leopard gave an extra 4 feet to architects Simonis & Voogd. And the benefits have included the interior volume, subtly increased by the presence of a chine, the exterior spaces, but also the performance since the top speed now climbs to 24 knots. A flybridge, direct forward access from the galley, 3 and 4-cabin versions plus crew: so many more things that make this little Leopard a powercat that has nothing to envy on bigger boats.

40 OPEN SUNREEF POWER : A catamaran for the stars

From Cannes to Abu Dhabi, Monaco to Miami, this was last year's star boat. It must be said that with its metallic hulls, underwater lights, white leather bucket-seats, carbon black T-top, full teak deck, forward cockpit, up to the 5-star bathroom, the 40 Open has done nothing to go unnoticed. The must-have is the after end of its tilting topsides that create a vast sunbathing area in the center of a huge terrace overlooking the water. Once at sea, go-kart maneuverability and sports performance will win you over.

MY 44 : One hull dedicated to the owner

This is the largest Fountaine Pajot in the Motor Yacht range (not counting the forthcoming 67-foot model based on the Alegria). The MY 44 represents the quintessence of the yard's know-how in terms of comfort and seakeeping qualities on two hulls. Thanks to its top speed, cruising speed range and premium comfort, the MY 44 was an immediate success. By offering a particularly attractive owner's hull, much more space than on a monohull, and incomparable stability - whether under way or at anchor - the concept is sure to appeal to all motorboat lovers!

AQUILA 44 : A very attractive volume

The XXL-sized volume of this model is the thing that surprises anyone who gets the chance to sail on it. At the heart of the range designed by the visionary Lex Raas, the Aquila 44 is above all a comfortable powercat: the living space offered easily seduces a hedonistic clientele. Ultimately, the three cabins offered as standard (4 cabins have been available since 2018), as well as the interior equipment, are perfectly consistent with its program - use in charter or for private cruising.

MARES 45 Ft YACHT FISH : Asymmetric hulls

This model is the latest in the Mares range, specializing in luxury units - up to 160 feet. As always at this Florida-based manufacturer, the hulls are asymmetrical in order to offer better performance (up to 35 knots, 27 for cruising), more stability and lower fuel consumption. The 45 Ft Yacht Fish, as its name suggests, has been optimized for the most demanding of fishermen - from the Mares Motor Yacht version. This is evidenced by its huge aft cockpit, but also by the possibility for the pilot to see what is happening there from the flybridge. Other models available: the Mares 47 and 65.

NAUTITECH POWER 47 : A successful engine version

First seen early 2018 at Düsseldorf, the very first Nautitech Power model drew crowds at its first public appearance. To its credit, it has a variety of programs: coastal cruising at 22 knots or long-distance cruising with a 1,000-nm range at 9 knots, the choice is yours. On board, the saloon/cockpit typical of the brand, as well as an understated, yet chic and efficient design. You could lose count of the outside spaces, between the flybridge, sunbathing area, forward cockpit, and even the hydraulic platform, aft, as useful for carrying the dinghy as it is for use as a private bathing platform. A refit of the interior and deck, in the spirit of the sailing version, is scheduled for 2020.

Hudson Powercat 48 : A real 4x4 of the seas!

Hudson, in addition to their HH range of sailboats, are offering motor catamarans, badged under the name Hudson Powercat. The silhouette differs significantly from the catamarans in the sailing range. Performance, with a speed of 25 knots, and luxurious amenities remain on the agenda. The interior volumes have increased under Bill Dixon Design's pencil, offering a magnificent owner's cabin with a view over the sea. 52 and 56-foot versions are expected.

AQUILA 48 : Luxury, comfort and performance

The first and the largest - until the launch of the forthcoming 70 - of the catamarans originally designed for MarineMax, the Aquila 48 has also attracted private customers. Its interior and exterior volumes are remarkable in terms of ergonomics and comfort. Though standard 3 or 4-cabin versions are quite traditional, the interior helm station, the saloon, the galley, the forward cockpit accessible from the interior, and even more so the flybridge, a real upper deck, are very impressive.

EUPHORIE 5 : How about we leave for real?

The test of the Euphoria 5 won over our Editor in Chief: irreproachable seakeeping qualities, comfort and elegance, was his assessment. The challenge for architect Marc Lombard was to propose a power version of the very successful Série 5. With the exception of a few details, particularly in the cockpit, it naturally follows the same layout plan - the gigantic owner's cabin still occupies the full width of the central rostrum. As usual in the Privilège world, customization is possible and high-end quality is present in every detail. A real invitation to head off further afield: this is how we would conclude our test off the coast of Les Sables d'Olonne in France.

Iliad 50 : Ready to go blue water cruising

NEW
The Iliad range is built in China and distributed in Australia. This 50-foot boat, designed for ocean crossing, is already complemented by a 70-footer – and 60 and 90-foot versions are on the drawing board. The Iliad’s program is much more adventurous than that of most of its competitors: the possibility of covering 2,500 nm without refueling and being able to take the ground, on a beach or slipway proves it from the outset... However, comfort has not been neglected, quite the contrary: the Iliad 50 offers three levels of living space and a particularly neat finish. On test in this issue.

LEOPARD 53 PC : A very successful design
NEW
This new model will be on display at the Miami Boat Show 2020, replacing the Leopard 51 PC launched back in 2013. The 53 PC features real motoryacht lines, with a solid foredeck, pronounced topsides and an impressively-sized flybridge. A very clear effort has been made in terms of design: the coachroof is visually lighter than on previous models. Inside, moving around is easy: a wide central passage connects the aft cockpit to the foredeck saloon - accessible thanks to the famous front door, dear to Leopard. Outside, there’s no shortage of space for relaxation, and access to the sea and the dinghy has been given priority.

SILENT 55 : The greenest of all powercats

With a dozen catamarans delivered, Silent Yachts is one of the pioneers in electric propulsion. There’s no denying that the 55, presented at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2018, is most convincing. The 100% electric E-Power version with two 135 kW motors can reach 10 knots - as we were able to measure during our test - is particularly attractive. The Cruiser model, less powerful, will offer greater range. As for the hybrid diesel-electric version, this will reassure even the most skeptical. Finally, Silent offers a Sails version, which will delight those most committed to preserving the environment. Inside, five layout options are available, with a special mention to the master cabin in positioned centrally, forward.

SUNREEF 60 POWER : Seamanlike and ultra-modern

Impressive. That's the first word that comes to mind as you're about to board the 60 Sunreef Power. Luxurious villa on the water or a long-distance ship, this yacht knows how to do everything. Including adapting to your specific program, the customization palette being infinite. The figures are of course a little out of the ordinary, with more than 3,000 nm of range, or a 32 m² (345 sq ft) flybridge equipped with a jacuzzi...

McCONAGHY 59P : Power and high-tech

NEW
The hulls of this upcoming MC59P are reminiscent of those of the sailing catamarans produced by the shipyard; the performance will undoubtedly be just as flattering - 26 knots announced. The nacelle extends significantly forward here: a cockpit replaces the trampoline. The layout is very much inspired by the MC55 sail, in particular the huge saloon largely open, aft, which makes it possible to do away with the cockpit itself. But it is forward that the big change is taking place, with the addition of a central owner's cabin. The view over the water promises to be exceptional…

SERENITY 64 : Retractable bimini

American marketing and Turkish production combine extremely well for this Serenity 64. The designers chose to offer a hybrid engine combining two electric and two internal combustion engines: reassuring and environmentally friendly. While the layout is fairly traditional, much attention has been paid to its quality. But what amazed us was the ingenious rigid bimini entirely covered with solar panels, which lowers to the point of covering the huge flybridge to reduce air draft and/or windage. A 74-footer is also available from the manufacturer.

LAGOON 630 : Comfort and range

By launching the Lagoon 630 Motor Yacht (the power version of the 620), Groupe Bénéteau was right on target, judging by the dozens of orders placed - and the delivery time inherent to such a success. Let's face it, the space on board is impressive. As for the standard of finish, it’s gone up a notch, now being closer to what you find on superyachts. Could the all-new SIXTY 7, with superyacht style, overshadow her? Not for now, it seems…

POWER 67 : To be discovered at Miami!

NEW
Unlike the Motor Yacht range (MY 37, MY 40 and MY 44) designed specifically to be motor boats, the Power 67 is a catamaran developed using as a base, the Alegria 67, the new flagship of the Fountaine Pajot sailing fleet. The hull has of course been optimized to meet the specific requirements of motor boats, and to support the power of the engines, which range from 2 x 300 HP to 2 x 435 HP. This is enough to offer speed enthusiasts a wide range of top speeds of over 20 knots, even if the main interest of this type of unit is to go along between 10 and 15 knots in remarkable comfort. Another specific feature is that the Power 67 version offers a flybridge even more designed for life on board, with the area dedicated to sail handling being reorganized to offer new spaces. First presentation scheduled for February at the Miami Boat Show.

SUNREEF SUPREME 68 POWER : Sail or power

This characteristic catamaran range with its angular design is available in both sailboats and motoryachts - but it is the latter that is really targeted by the concept. Everything has been optimized to obtain record living space including a main deck and a flybridge of 65 m² (700 sq ft) each. The interior can be fitted out to suit your requests and without any constraints, as the volumes are similar to those of a house. The layout makes it possible to have the largest living space in the category in this size, then to decorate it as you like, assisted by the interior design studio set up by the yard. The 6 x 6 m (20’ x 20’) garage can accommodate all kinds of watersports toys...
