The pretty Moreton Island, close to Brisbane is well-known to Australians. Many of them come here to flatten its large beaches with the tires of their all-terrain vehicles.

There are multiple anchoring possibilities along the island’s Western coast.
Here, we are at Kounoungai, in front of the wonderful white sand dunes, far from the tourists. As the tide retreats, it reveals small sandbanks which have been perfectly sculpted by the little waves. Thousands of tiny crabs crawl out of the sand and scurry away as we approach.
Brisbane and its 2.3 million inhabitants aren’t far away, and yet here, we feel as though we are a long way from anywhere atop the sandy hills. It’s a very windy area, and despite the blazing sun, we head back down in jackets to avoid being blasted by the fine sand.
When the sun is at its zenith, all the bright tropical colors merge to form a watercolor-like vision.
