This year has been rich in emotions and events, between the passage to the Caribbean, the conferences and the participative science activities. We have had the opportunity to meet a lot of people, and share our respect for the sea with numerous sailors, children, students. We have also had two pauses, to fill the ship’s coffers and thus be able to continue our trip serenely. We then came back to Martinique, to prepare our second humanitarian operation in Dominica.
The first visit to this island in February had a great effect on us, as we had brought donations of equipment directly to the villages razed by the hurricanes. We welcomed the village children aboard Contigo for a morning’s sailing, and took samples together. Thanks to our partnership with the ‘Help for Dominica’ organization, we were able to deliver books for the children, clothes, fishing and kitchen equipment, tools, and many other things to the Castle Bruce community. We also organized discussions about pollution and plastic with the local fishermen. We plan then to sail up to Cuba, then the Panama Canal, to launch into our second long crossing: the Pacific, heading for the Marquesas, with a stop in the Galapagos.
