The Multi50 Class was created after the Orma 60s’ disastrous Route du Rhum in 2002 (3 boats at the finish out of 18 at the start). The idea was to offer simpler, more seaworthy and above all cheaper boats, to interest the sponsors.

But today the class is having to adapt, to continue to exist, faced with the ‘Ultims’, which have a tendency to monopolize the media’s attention.
“We have to become more professional with regards to both our sponsors and the organizers. We no longer have the choice. To attract new sailors, we have to move with the times,” noted Erwan Le Roux (FenêtréA), the new class president. As a result, we could see foils appearing on the Multi50s, but one-design, to limit the costs. If the choice is validated, the class rules will be modified. The aim is to have between 6 and 8 Multi50s at the start of the 2018 Route du Rhum...
