Here’s a nice discovery – this
inflatable catamaran, called the MiniCat. Xavier Marchadour from Le Comptoir de
la Baie des Anges demonstrated the assembly and launch of the 420, the
intermediate model in the range, which includes the 310 (1 adult or 2
teenagers, price: 3,100 euros inc. tax, the 420 (2 adults, 4,800 euros inc. tax
in sport pack version) and the 460 (3/4 adults, 5,590 euros inc tax). The two
bags, weighing 21kg each, fit in the trunk or on the roof of a car, which is
already outstanding. On opening the (very well-designed) bags, we discover the
two floats, the nacelle’s lacquered aluminum tubes, the mast, which can be
dismantled (5.5m high), the trampoline, the small keels, the rudder and the
fittings. All the elements, as well as the sails, are of excellent quality.
Perfected (European manufacture) by and for sailors and racers, the MiniCat is a real boat as well as being a beautiful, top-quality object distributed throughout the whole world. We tested it in light summer conditions but it is obvious that the rigorous handling, the precision of the appendages and the efficiency of the sail plan (square-headed mainsail, gennaker) make it a genuine modern, fun sailing machine, with real sporting potential. Easy to transport, assemble and sail, clever and all-purpose, this ideal tender (possibility of an outboard bracket) is incredibly versatile (beginner’s cat, sporty raids, outings, nature toy for a yacht), as comfortable on inland waters as accompanying an ocean cruiser, the MiniCat can be stowed easily aboard any multihull over 10m long.
