The idea is to build a trimaran which is totally independent...with no crew. A boat capable of crossing the oceans while being totally self-sufficient. The Mayflower Autonomous Research Ship (Mars) is a 100-foot trimaran, which can reach speeds of 20 knots under sail and whose energy will be provided by solar panels. It should be able to cross the Atlantic in 7 to 10 days, but must be able to stay at sea for 7 to 10 months if the owner so chooses... The idea is to have the project finished in 2020, for the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower’s crossing to the United States.
