An incorrect term indeed. Yet all those of you cruising around the world have heard talk of it, as it means paying a tax of 20% of the value of your boat if you stay longer than 18 months in French Polynesia.

Good news (which should be official in a few days’ time): the temporary admission (for boats in transit) is extended from 18 to 36 months, with no minimum period between two stays. After three years, you just have to leave the territory, then return immediately, to be able to stay for three more years.
Excellent news for all round the world sailors and lovers of Polynesia’s sumptuous anchorages.
