The giant trimaran, sailed masterfully by Dona Bertarelli and Yann Guichard, has just taken the record for the Route de la Découverte, between Cadiz in Spain and San Salvador in the Bahamas.

The record had belonged to Franck Cammas on Groupama 3 since 2007, but the big Spindrift (40 metres) was able to take advantage of a good weather window and above all, perfect navigation by the crew, to beat the record by over 20 hours. The new reference time is therefore 6 days, 14 hours, 29 minutes and 21 seconds, an average speed of 24.5 knots over the theoretical 3885 miles of the course. Note the impressive top speed recorded aboard Spindrift 2: 46.08 knots! The 14 crew members then brought the trimaran back to its base, to prepare it for its next challenge: the Route du Rhum, singlehanded...
