Aim: to cross the Atlantic in good humor and safety, whilst measuring yourself against stiff competition.
Faced with this success, the organizers have had to resign themselves to splitting the rally into two distinct events, one leaving from Las Palmas for St Lucia via Cape Verde (the ARC+, 54 boats including 12 catamarans) and the ARC, with its 206 boats entered (6 didn’t start following technical problems), and 1116 crew members including 32 children.
In the Cruising Multihull category, the first over the ARC finishing line was the Neel 45 ‘La Caravelle’, around 6 hours ahead of the Outremer 51 ‘Wanderer’, after a 2,700-mile crossing. On the third step, we found the surprising Salina 48 ‘My Cherie d’Amour’.
On corrected time, the Salina won, ahead of the Neel and the Outremer. A corrected time classification which takes into account the number of engine hours declared by the skippers. On this subject, it’s perhaps regrettable that this is only declared, as whilst certain skippers are obviously very honest (with 20 to 150 engine hours), others declare none...
As for the ARC+, the first was the Victoria 67 ‘Lir’, ahead of the Catana 472 ‘El Gato’ and the Lagoon 380 ‘Havhunden’, which therefore won easily on corrected time.
