The Results
The awards most eagerly awaited by multihull enthusiasts were held on the first evening of the International Multihull Show - an in-water exhibition that has become a must for builders of two-and three-hulled boats.

The unmissable Multihull of the Year contest, organized by Multihulls World, along with the International Multihull Show, took place a La Grande motte on April 3. During the party sponsored by our partner Sevenstar Yacht Transport at the great multihull get-together that six of the nominees became winners. More than 250 exhibitors attended the event in the VIP tent. The event, presented by Gwen Dorning, our marketing director, and Emmanuel van Deth, our editor-in-chief, was shown in real time on social media and was of course the subject of a video put up on YouTube and our social media that same evening. The 2024 WINNER banners and stickers were handed over to the shipyard representatives, most of whom were present as exhibitors, with the exception of Iliad Catamarans and Vaan Yachts.
The next morning, the winning multihulls being exhibited at the show were quick to get their banners on display despite the very windy conditions.
Let’s remember that the MOTY is a unique election in two ways: it is a competition exclusively for multihulls (sail and power) from all over the world, and above all it is YOU, readers, sailors, racers and especially users of the nominated multihulls, who choose the winners in the first four categories. Our dedicated website MultihullOfTheYear.com, saw no less than 6,000 of you cast your votes.
For this 2024 edition, we decided to award the prize for the International Multihull Show Premiere. Finally, skippers on the Capt’n Boat platform were invited to vote for their favorite pre-owned multihull in a sixth category.
On the back of the success of this year’s event, we are now focusing on preparing the 8th edition, and we would like to thank all our loyal partners - some of whom have been supporting us since the first edition, so thank you and well done to them!

2025 MOTY Nominees

The list of nominees for the election of the multihull of the year 2025 will be revealed on February 12th 2025, the opening day of the Miami International Boat Show, one of our new partners. Voting will start immediately and will remain open until next year’s International Multihull Show in April 2025.

SAIL CRUISING

Vaan R5

 

In this category, which featured four catamarans and one trimaran, it was the model committed to a forever green process that won. The Vaan R5, designed and built in the Netherlands, is constructed from recycled and/or recyclable materials and has an electric engine. It was a hard-fought victory, with the Vaan taking 25.33% of the vote, 1.5 points ahead of the Dufour 44, itself trailed (by a handful of votes!) by the Nautitech 48 Open. The NEEL 52 took 15.51% of the vote, ahead
of the Aventura 45 at 11.95%.

Outremer 52

 

Of these 5 high-performance multihulls equipped with daggerboards, the Outremer 52 came out on top - easy for this brand, which (it’s true) wins a lot of awards, some might think... And yet, with 25.68% of the votes, this victory was not a landslide, as the HH44 came in 3% behind - the smallest of the HHs was for a long time at the top of the MOTY and it all came down to the final days. The Xquisite 30 SportCat came third with 21.81% of the vote, ahead of the New Windelo 50 with 19.11% and the MC55 with 10.78%.

Iliad 53F

The victory of this model, the flybridge version of the 53 Sedan, comes as something of a surprise given that the brand is so very young, but it has to be said that the 53F was a great success at its World Premiere at the Miami International Boat Show. The Iliad, with 26.77% of the votes, came in just over a point ahead of the Makai 37. Next came the Aquila Molokai (20.62%), the Longreach 1900 (15.72%) and finally the YOT 36 (11.56%).

Gunboat 72

 

It’s hard to do battle with a Gunboat... the American brand taken over by the Grand Large Group has managed to further strengthen its reputation for excellence.
The new 72 easily won its category with 33.68% of the votes. The Prestige M8 and its luxurious interior held up rather well, with a very respectable 25.1% of the votes. Next up were the 80 Sunreef Power ECO (17.87%), the GP70 (13.39%) and finally the Thira 80 (9.95%).

New Windelo 54

Our jury focused on the world premieres at the show, leaving us with two strong contenders, the attractive and innovative HH44 (which you can discover in this issue) and the New Windelo 54, a redesigned version of the previous model. It was a tough choice, but in the end, it came down to the 54 and its builder, who is 100% committed to building and sailing boats that are more respectful of the environment.

CAPT’N BOAT

Catana 471

 

We asked the Capt’n Boat skippers to choose from the following five proven multihulls - Leopard 39 - Lagoon 380 - Nautitech 40 - Lipari 41 - Catana 471 - and it was the Christophe Barreau design that came out on top. The Catana is the least numerous model in this selection, but it is nonetheless very popular on the second-hand market, and among the skippers too!
