The objective for builder Privilège and architect Marc Lombard was to design a power version of the very successful Série 5. The bet paid off, as the elegant Euphorie 5 has irreproachable seakeeping qualities and a luxury level of comfort. With the exception of a few details, notably in the cockpit, this powercat is now taking over the deck plan of the Privilège Signature 510. The layout is unchanged: the gigantic owner’s cabin still occupies the full width of the central rostrum. As usual in the Privilège world, customization is possible and high-end quality is present in every detail. A real invitation to head off further afield!

LEOPARD 53 PC

A clear effort in terms of design

First presented at the 2020 Miami Boat Show, the 53 PC replaced the Leopard 51 PC launched back in 2013. This boat features real motoryacht lines, with a solid foredeck, pronounced topsides and an impressively sized flybridge. A very clear effort has been made in terms of design: the coachroof is visually lighter than on previous models. Inside, moving around is easy: a wide central passage connects the aft cockpit to the foredeck saloon - accessible thanks to the famous front door, dear to Leopard. Outside, there’s no shortage of space for relaxation, and access to the sea and the dinghy has been given priority. Off Fort Lauderdale, our test demonstrated the good handling of the 53 PC and her speed possibilities – up to 22 knots. As for range, this can reach 1,995 nautical miles at 6.8 knots using just one engine.

Semi-custom offshore boating

If you think you can see experienced craftsmanship everywhere aboard the PC52, that’s because Horizon have been producing yachts in Taiwan since 1987. ILIAD 53S/53F

With or without flybridge

Even though Iliad Catamarans only launched in 2019, the brand has already launched several powercat models from 50 to 70 feet, which have all seen great commercial success, notably in Australia... Building on this success, the yard has launched the Iliad 53. Available in an S-version, this new model is innovative in terms of design, as it does not have a flybridge, thus presents a sporty silhouette, or sedan appearance - hence the “S”. With its significantly lowered superstructure, the 53S can venture onto inland waterways, opening up new cruising possibilities. She’s also available in a flybridge version under the name of the Iliad 53F. Like her predecessors, the 53 is a beachable cruising boat, solidly built in a foam/vinylester sandwich. This catamaran is also very comfortable and particularly well equipped as standard - air conditioning, generator, complete electronics, bow thruster, electrical appliances, lithium batteries, a 5,000-W inverter, solar panels, video/sound system etc. Powered by two 440 HP engines, the Iliad 53S is expected to reach 24 knots and be capable of covering more than 1,750 miles in long-distance cruising mode.

AQUILA 54 YACHT

A forecabin across the entire beam

On the back of their experience with the Aquila 44 and 48 - the latter model dropped from the catalog more than three years ago - Aquila Boats launched a new, larger model in 2021, the Aquila 54. During our tests in Clearwater, Florida, we discovered a perfectly protected flybridge, and notably, a new owner’s cabin housed at the front of the nacelle. This benefits from an impressive window area. The saloon includes two sofas, one of which serves as a bench seat around the table. The U-shaped galley is adjacent to the cockpit and is complemented by a central bar. The Aquila 54 is available in 3 to 5 cabins. This new model has seen great success, with some 50 units already ordered a year after its launch...

SUNREEF 55 ULTIMA

Just for the pleasure of being at sea

Sunreef’s latest models are designed to offer ever more personalized comfort and luxury, while taking into account the impact of boating on the environment... This 55 Open, the latest addition to the Ultima range, could, in its ECO version, have joined the Forever Green category, with its two 350 kW motors. But the twin 600 HP ICE blocks are there to ensure high speeds with little or no concern for energy restrictions. This new model features broken bows – traditional lower down, then inverted at the top - associated with the inverted forward face of the coachroof, ensuring a design as aggressive as it is unique. The 55 will have a large semi-open saloon and a spacious stern with two folding bulwark platforms. The 55 Open Sunreef Power is due to be built in a new shipyard in the United Arab Emirates. A 44 has also been announced.

LIGHTWAVE 55 MOTOR YACHT

A first powercat from the Australian builder

Since 1996, Lightwave Yachts has built more than 90 catamarans – all sailboats. This new power model is therefore a first... the builder has focused on range, with a 1,450-gallon (5,500 l) fuel capacity and the design of semi-displacement hulls optimized to reduce drag. In fact, the yard claims that the range at 8 knots will be 2,500 nautical miles, which will allow for most ocean passages. To perfectly fit this offshore program, there’s great bridgedeck clearance 2.9ft (90 cm), the weights (water and fuel but also black water tanks) are perfectly centered, watertight bulkheads are fitted, and skeg keels protect rudders and propellers. As for the drivetrain, the builder is proposing twin Volvos at either 300 or 480 HP. The superstructure can accommodate up to 3,600 Wp of solar panels coupled to a lithium battery bank with an automated charging system. Hybrid or electric propulsion will also be offered. The deck layout and interior have been optimized to provide refined comfort for a crew of up to 8 people.

An even more successful version of the previous project (the 55 Power Catamaran), this 555 built in South Africa is off to a great commercial start, as the third model has just been launched... This new powercat features a refined design and features proven technologies. The hulls are optimized for excellent passage through the sea and an optimum performance under power. Designed for powercat use only, the Two Oceans 55 is distinguished by a moderate deck width though the nacelle remains very voluminous. There is a forward door and numerous layouts (3 or 4- cabin versions) available. The builder also offers a 675 and an 870.

Adventure on three hulls

If there’s one multipower that really made a splash at Cannes, it was the LEEN 56, on display at Port Canto right in the middle of the sailboats! For logistical reasons, the manufacturer managed to convince the show organizers - not without insisting that this motor trimaran could be powered (at least in part) by a kite. A fine line between sail and motor, which inspired the editorial in this issue of our Special Edition. Back to the LEEN brand, which now has three models; the LEEN 56 is the first of these. It is characterized by the two floats significantly shorter at the bows compared to the central hull, and by a platform of large surface-area, topped by an imposing flybridge. The advantage of these new ocean-going multihulls is their very low drag: consumption will be limited to 2 liters (just over ½ US gal) per mile at cruising speed (9 knots). The diesel engine in the central hull can be supported by two electric pods - one in each hull - to facilitate maneuvering in port and for leaving an anchorage with the greatest discretion.

CAT 56

Signed Pininfarina

At the Cannes Yachting Festival, renowned Italian designers Pininfarina Nautical and De Simoni Yacht Design announced their collaboration on the design of a forthcoming luxury powercat, the CAT 56. This new model, now in build at the Austin Parker shipyard, should be followed by other projects to be unveiled over the next few years. In terms of design, the CAT 56 stands out for its sporty character, copying the visual codes of its superyachts. The deck features a cockpit with direct access to the sea. The flybridge is home to a spacious sundeck, wet bar and the helm station.
The interior features spacious, well-lit spaces, such as the saloon, which houses an open-plan galley and lounge area, both open to the outside. The finishes are advertised as superior to those of yachts in the same sector. In addition to the living area, the CAT 56 offers an owner’s cabin that occupies the entire available width in the forward area, with a dressing area and desk, two guest cabins with dedicated bathrooms and a crew cabin.

MOON 60 Power

Motorized version of the 60 Sail

Following the Moon 60 Sail, an ultra-comfortable catamaran that was offered a year ago, the Polish boatbuilder has announced a power version that’s based on the same platform. With XXL freeboard and generous superstructures, it’s a real villa on the water, not dissimilar in spirit to the Supreme range from Sunreef. The first plans to be released show appendages identical to those on the sail version, and the specifications given by the manufacturer on its website are those of the sailing version, with a draft of 5’11” (1.8 m). For the moment, we don’t have any information about the drivetrain chosen but we hope to be able to tell you more very soon!
