Aboard a multipower of 50 to 60 feet in length, we’re getting into a world of great comfort on the water - a quality of life that is little different from our life ashore. Unrestricted energy and an XXL payload form a big part of this, and living aboard can make this quite apparent! As for the length of the hulls, this ensures seakindly behavior, even in heavy weather. The large capacity of the tanks allows for lengthy passagemaking, sometimes ocean crossings - provided that the revs are not pushed too high.

Leopard 53PC

A Powercat that Sets the Standards

Launched in 2020, the 53PC features real motoryacht lines, with a solid foredeck, pronounced topsides and an impressively sized flybridge. A very clear effort has been made in terms of design: the coachroof is visually lighter than on previous models. Inside, moving around is easy: a wide central passage connects the aft cockpit to the foredeck saloon - accessible thanks to the famous front door, dear to Leopard. Outside, there’s no shortage of space for relaxation, and access to the sea and the dinghy has been given priority. Off Fort Lauderdale, our test demonstrated the good handling of the 53PC and her speed possibilities – up to 24 knots. As for range, this can reach almost 2,000 nautical miles at 6.8 knots using just one engine.

Sunmare 50

A Design that Will Take your Breath Away!

Forever Green

Aimed at the high-end day charter market, this powercat was designed by Yacht Design Collective and Damien Bovie Design. The layout is 100% day charter, with an extra-large nacelle - completely open at the stern and towards the bow-rider thanks to a glass door, which can remain open in fair weather. Each hull is nonetheless fitted with a double berth, plenty of storage space and a heads compartment. The one-off composite construction by Chantier Hervé (no need to introduce them in La Rochelle!), these stripped-down layouts and the absence of a hydraulic platform ultimately translate into a displacement of just 11.5 tons. The twin FPT motors, each rated at 500 HP, have little trouble propelling the Sunmare at 30 knots. On board, the Sunmare’s excellent ability to move through the chop and careful attention to soundproofing are particularly noteworthy. As an option, the builder offers an electric powertrain capable of providing several hours’ running time.

Aquila 50 Yacht

A Full-width Owner’s Cabin

Unveiled at its world premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the Aquila 50 Yacht is positioned between the 42 and the 54 - not forgetting the 44, which will remain in the catalog for the time being. The new design features a break in the deck line - the forward two-fifths are clearly taller. In addition to creating a new visual signature for the brand, this elevation allows the forward sections of the catamaran to be better defended, while offering XXL volume to the forward owner’s cabin – this, in fact, occupies the entire available beam.
As part of a complete restructuring of the Aquila Boats distribution network, the 50 is already eyeing up the European market with an understated interior design that we find very successful.

Leen 51

A very attractive design!

Forever Green

The Leen Trimarans team unveiled a unit with much smaller floats and, above all, longer bows than those of the Leen 56 and 72, which are disappearing from the catalog. The superstructures are quite similar to those of a Neel. The only regret is that the famous Portuguese bridge, which totally protected the side-decks, and the interior cockpit door have disappeared - you can’t have everything. But in the end, the Leen 51’s program remains identical to that of its big siblings: ocean passagemaking, exploration and, of course, living on board - in very long-term mode. The hybrid drivetrain that has proved successful on the two previous Leens has been retained and even boosted, as the 51 aims for a top speed of 20 knots. At 10 knots, fuel consumption is limited to 2 liters (0.53 US gal) / nautical mile. Inside, a galley to port of the interior helm station, a large saloon and 4 double cabins, including the flush-decked owner’s cabin.

Iliad 53S/53F

With or Without Flybridge

Even though Iliad Catamarans only launched in 2019, the brand has already launched several powercat models from 50 to 75 feet, which have all seen great commercial success, notably in Australia... Building on this success, the yard has launched the Iliad 53. Available in an S-version, this new model is innovative in terms of design, as it does not have a flybridge, thus presents a sporty silhouette, or sedan appearance - hence the “S”. With its significantly lowered superstructure, the 53S can venture onto inland waterways, opening up new cruising possibilities. She’s also available in a flybridge version under the name of the Iliad 53F. Like her predecessors, the 53 is a beachable cruising boat, solidly built in a foam/vinylester sandwich.

Sunreef’s latest models are designed to offer ever more personalized comfort and luxury, while taking into account the impact of boating on the environment... This 55 Open, the latest addition to the Ultima range, will be equipped with a hybrid drivetrain – twin 350 kW motors and twin 600 HP internal combustion engines. The broken bows (traditional lower down, then inverted at the top) associated with the inverted forward face of the coachroof, ensuring a design as aggressive as it is unique. The 55 will have a large semi-open saloon and a spacious stern with two folding bulwark platforms.

Lightwave 55 Motor Yacht

A First Powercat from the Australian Builder

Since 1996, Lightwave Yachts has built close to 100 catamarans – all sailboats. This new power model is therefore a first... the builder has focused on range, with a 1,450-gallon (5,500 l) fuel capacity and the design of semi-displacement hulls optimized to reduce drag. In fact, the yard claims that the range at 8 knots will be 2,500 nautical miles, which will allow for most ocean passages. To perfectly fit this offshore program, there’s great bridgedeck clearance 2.9ft (90 cm), the weights (water and fuel but also black water tanks) are perfectly centered, watertight bulkheads are fitted, and skeg keels protect rudders and propellers. As for the drivetrain, the builder is proposing twin Volvos at either 300 or 480 HP. The superstructure can accommodate up to 3,600 Wp of solar panels coupled to a lithium battery bank with an automated charging system. Hybrid or electric propulsion will also be offered.

An even more successful version of the previous project (the 55 Power Catamaran), this 555 built in South Africa is seeing great commercial success – notably for a semi-custom project. This new powercat features a refined design and features proven technologies. The hulls are optimized for excellent passage through the sea and an optimum performance under power. Designed for powercat use only, the Two Oceans 55 is distinguished by a moderate deck width though the nacelle remains very voluminous. Ready for the Big Adventure!

The length of the hulls of Aventura Catamarans’ flagship was in fact so close to 50 feet, and the associated volume so impressive that the Aventura 14 became the 50… And finally, there’s now a 2-metre (6½-foot) more deck, aft, that brings the length to 54’. These new hulls also allow for increased engine power - to go further and faster.
On our test of the 50 MY vintage at La Grande Motte in April 2022, we were struck by the large foredeck and the cleverly designed flybridge with sunroof, the large fitted-kitchen style galley on the port side, the interior helm station and the forward door.

Unica 58

Yachting on Two Hulls

This new powercat unveiled by an Italian brand renowned for its three ranges of luxury motorboats - walk-around, motoryacht and flybridge - clearly demonstrates the interest of manufacturers and, of course, their customers in the power catamaran sector. The exercise, in terms of design, technical choices and layouts, is an interesting one, as these “traditional” yachting specialists seek to innovate by integrating two hulls, while defending their vision of motorboating. As a result, the lines of the Unica 58 remain very clean - the builder called on the services of Pininfarina and De Simoni Yacht Design, if you please... The relatively narrow beam is complemented by an attractive owner’s cabin, which occupies the full 23 feet (7 m) available forward. The flybridge is home to a spacious sundeck, wet bar and helm station.

Longreach 1900

Blue Water Cruising or Expedition ?

The hulls of the Longreach 1900 feature inverted bows to increase the waterline length as well as ensuring a wave-piercing effect. Deflecting chines keep the deck dry and the robust keels allow for taking the ground. With its long-range tanks, the 58 can extend its range to almost 4,000 nautical miles while maintaining a speed of 8 knots. The flybridge is a friendly space with an immense area for relaxation, a table and a bar with refrigerator/freezer. This upper deck can be completely enclosed aboard the Expedition version. The highlight of the interior has got to be the owner’s suite with its king-size bed. Headroom exceeds 6 feet 10 inches (2.1 m) throughout.
