The luxury multihull sector certainly doesn’t seem to be experiencing a crisis: orders are even increasing every year. In addition to one-offs designed and built to order, builders are now launching small series production runs. The likes of Fountaine Pajot are now joining Sunreef and Lagoon in this sector. The advantages of these two- or three-hull platforms seem to be convincing: stability, XXL living space and layout possibilities are appealing to yachtsmen who have come from monohulls, but also to newcomers to (large) yachting. More and more projects, bigger and bigger units are being launched and innovation knows no bounds: this is the world of dream multipowers!

An Electric Offshore Catamaran in Aluminum

German entrepreneur Christian Braun and Iván Salas Jefferson of Iddes Yachts have launched Cosmopolitan Yachts, a new brand of custom-built aluminum electric catamarans. The first model is a powercat designed for unlimited offshore cruising. The emphasis has been placed on the sea-keeping qualities of the hulls (note the tunnel between the hulls in a double gull-wing shape), the electric technology, and respect for the environment. Aluminum was the obvious choice thanks to its capacity to be recycled, its lightness and its solidity. Foils have been designed in order to improve comfort. Engineering has been focused on reducing energy consumption and vibration while guaranteeing maximum range and reliability. The builder also offers a Cosmopolitan 85 (available in a “Narrow” version, in the region of 6½ feet/2 meters less in the beam) as well as a 115 and even a 125.

A Complete Range of Powercats

 
 
Greek builder Nauticks had a stand at boot Düsseldorf 2024 to present, in model form, their complete range of 5 powercats from 48 to 80 feet. Each model is characterized by very different and innovative hull porthole cut-outs - with the exception of the Nauticks 68 presented here, whose vertical rectangular windows are somewhat reminiscent of Sunreef. The shipyard has deliberately opted for the very high-end sector, with great flexibility for customization. The deck layout has been optimized to offer the largest possible surface area, with a foredeck that joins the two straight bows and an aft platform that can be lowered to the level of the sugarscoop to form an enormous beach club area. Inside, the nacelle offers spectacular volume, while each hull houses two luxurious cabins.

Serenity 72

An Owner’s Suite with Panoramic Views

 
 
With 20 years’ experience in custom building and refitting aluminum, steel and composite yachts, Serenity Yachts has also launched a range of powercats driven by electric motors. The yard, based in Antalya, Turkey, has just announced a new model, but this time equipped with a traditional internal combustion engine. Built in aluminum, this ocean-going multiyacht was designed by the team of French-based architect Pierre Delion. The layout was designed by Darnet Design. A few figures give an idea of the promised comfort: 1,830 square feet (170 m²) of available deck space and 3,445 sq ft (320 m²) inside... The room of choice will certainly be the owner’s cabin: though it can occupy the entire port hull, it will certainly be even more successful when positioned forward on the main deck, enjoying an uninterrupted panoramic view. In all, the Serenity 72 can accommodate up to 10 guests in three to five cabins, depending on the configuration chosen by the Owner. The first Serenity 72 could be delivered soon.

Sunreef 66 Ultima

An Innovative Range That’s Expanding Fast!

Despite only just being launched, the Ultima range already includes five models from 44 to 88 feet. These powercats boast a more modern design than the brand’s “traditional” Power models, with bows that are clearly inverted above a chine that runs the entire length of the hulls, and with the forward face of the coachroof also inverted. Beam measurements have been reduced to match those of monohulls of the same length, decks have been raised, portholes have been boldly designed, and bulwarks comprise folding platforms. Technically, the Ultima is based on the manufacturer’s existing range of internal combustion and hybrid engines. Despite its limited beam of 23’9” (7.25 m) (compared to 35’9” (10.7 m) for the 60 Sunreef Power and 37’3” (11.35 m) for the 70), the new 66 Ultima succeeds in presenting a vast living space of 2,455 square feet (228 m²) and a large flybridge of 375 sq ft (35 m²). The aft deck can be transformed into a private Ocean Lounge, and the owner’s cabin occupies the entire available width.

A Catamaran, at Least when it Comes to the Hulls

 
 
Bluegame is an avant-garde brand from the Sanlorenzo group who are well known for their “classic” monohull yachts and whose next model will be a powercat. From the side, and especially from the stern, the Bluegame appears to have all the design codes of a monohull yacht. The idea is therefore to gain in stability and, above all, to save fuel: the Design Office claims a 40% reduction in fuel consumption compared to a 90-foot monohull yacht - which, on the basis of 300 hours’ running time, translates into savings in the order of 17,500 US gallons (66,000 liters) of diesel, and that equates to 175 tons of CO2 emissions. On the other hand, there’s no question of leaving the world of “classic” yachting behind, with a one-piece superstructure that widens as it goes forward - enough to accommodate a magnificent owner’s suite.

The recently launched brand of luxury powercats, Iliad Catamarans, have just announced their new flagship, the Iliad 75. The design is toned down a little compared to previous models, and the flybridge is semi-enclosed - making it more of an upper deck - in stark contrast to the sedan or flybridge choices of the Iliad 53. The advertised range - over 4,000 nautical miles - is also a remarkable factor. Typically, multiyachts are just “ocean-going”, with the possibility of covering maybe 3,000 miles at (very) low speed. As soon as we’ve been aboard and tested it – still to be arranged – we’ll let you know at what speed the Iliad 75 can undertake an ocean passage...

Luxury catamaran builder Sunreef is working on all fronts: opening a new factory in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates; expanding the ECO range - which now accounts for 50% of all orders; and ramping up production of the new Ultima powercats. The forward face of the superstructure is inverted, while the bows, too, are strongly inverted – though obviously in the opposite direction... The new 77 Ultima has been designed to optimize performance, energy efficiency and comfort, with a total surface area that tops 3,270 square feet (304 m²). Its interior layout offers plenty of natural light. The builder offers numerous customization options, including a spectacular full-width owner’s cabin.

Xcel 70

Italian Design, Built in the United Arab Emirates

 
 
Xcel Yachts is a very recent brand, offering a 70-foot multiyacht scheduled for launch in 2025. The Riviera shipyard, commissioned to build the first example, is a well-known yard in the Middle East, having been founded in 1976. Riviera runs a large service and repair center and builds boats for many brands. While the hulls of this Xcel 70 adopt a very classic design with traditional bow slopes (note the now very unusual 4-meter overhangs, i.e. 17% of the total length), the layout should be far more surprising, blending grand luxury with minimalist Italian design. In addition to the two crew berths, 4 or 5 double cabins will be available. The main characteristics, with the exception of the powertrain, have just been unveiled by the shipyard.

Long Island 78 Power

The Oceans are Her Playground

 
 
The hulls designed by Marc Lombard are made of aluminum, while the deck, superstructure and wheelhouse use composite materials. With its two 500 HP Cummins engines, the 78 Power cruises at 12 knots, with three more knots to reach top speed. The objective, thanks to this moderate engine size, the large tank capacity and the extensive work that’s gone into controlling the displacement, is to offer transatlantic range. The deck layout presents some interesting innovations: the wheelhouse on the flybridge is an enclosed space intended for navigation but also for relaxation with a bench seat and a desk.

The 80 Sunreef Power is undoubtedly the most successful model in the Polish manufacturer’s power range. Naturally, this model is also available in an Eco version - the first of which was unveiled at the 2023 Cannes Yachting Festival. This multiyacht offers quiet, non-polluting cruising and infinite range, or almost. By making use of a vast multiyacht platform, the builder has succeeded in installing 2,150 sq ft (200 m²) of light and ultramodern solar panels - producing up to 36 kWp of electricity. The 80 Sunreef Power Eco is also equipped with a high-tech battery bank: 30% lighter than the batteries used in the yachting industry, with a density of less than 11.5 lbs (5.2 kg) / kWh with greater efficiency and performance.

A Sailing Multiyacht That’s Become a Powerboat

 
 
The Seventy8, the current flagship of the Lagoon powercat range is seeing great success. The aft third of the Seventy 7’s (the sailboat version) underwater hulls have been redesigned to accommodate twin 510 HP engines as standard. As for the forward trampolines, they have been replaced by a rigid teak-covered platform, bringing the usable surface area outside to over 150 m²/1600 sq ft. The features are undoubtedly luxurious; the various design options - with meeting room or massage room - as well as several decorative atmospheres planned in the catalogue from the outset make this a semi-custom yacht in series production. They have retained the door in the topsides of the owner’s cabin, which transforms into a terrace at anchor. The aft galley is remarkable, both for the crew and the owner.

Turkey’s boatbuilding industry has a long history and can boast some significant expertise - not dissimilar to Polish shipbuilding know-how... so it’s not surprising that a direct competitor of Sunreef, the undisputed leader in semi-custom luxury catamarans, is presenting a multiyacht built in Istanbul. But unlike Sunreefs, which are built in composite, the VisionF 80 is aluminum. On the foredeck, a crane can be used to launch the RIB, freeing up the aft platform. During our very first visit aboard, in Cannes, we were impressed by the volume offered by the nacelle and the cabins, but also by the level of finish - the teak deck, the floor and the endless sofas, for example, command respect…

The idea here is to start from the concept of a 50-meter (150-foot) superyacht with all the advantages of the incredible space of these gigantic units, but to fit it onto hulls half that length! Most of all, it’s the nacelle where the Licia, built in composite (carbon/aramid/epoxy) shows all her originality. There’s an owner’s cabin or two VIP cabins, forward, with panoramic views over the anchorage. There’s also a saloon with a bar and dining area, while the companionways are spiral - as on megayachts - to avoid steep stairs. StellarCAT, a young brand based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has announced a new 83-foot (25-meter) three-deck model in its range of all-aluminum power catamarans. The triple-decked configuration on what is already a very large unit offers all the comfort you would expect to find aboard a 130 to 150-foot monohull motor yacht. The new name AL2503 highlights, beyond the length of the hulls and the existence of the famous three decks, the material used. Aboard, on the upper deck, aft of the helm station, is the open/closed skylounge. The Owner’s Suite, with its own private veranda, is also located on this third level. The main deck features an impressive 635-square foot (59 m²) saloon with a naturally open and airy layout and generous ceiling heights. As for the engines, the builder gives the option of two Volvo IPS 1050 or four IPS 800. The shipyard also offers this model with two decks, and other powercats, such as the StellarCat AL2002 and StellarSF 2603 - not forgetting a range dedicated to expeditions, with the Stellar EXP32 and EXP37.

The first of these features three decks, four guest cabins on the main deck (each with 280 to 300 square feet (26-28 m²) of floor space and a balcony) and more than 2,150 sq ft (200 m²) of outdoor space. Long Island 86 Power

Long Island powercats stand out from their competitors, having aluminum hulls and composite decks. The 86 Power is available either with conventional or with hybrid propulsion. The first version presented is characterized by a very large flybridge, a real upper deck that incorporates a helm station, a sheltered bar and a large saloon area. There is also the option of an enclosed wheelhouse, similar to that on the Long Island 78 Power. The coachroof will be fitted with solar panels to reduce the amount of generator use when at anchor. On the foredeck - accessible from the interior saloon - a Jacuzzi adds to the on-board comfort. The aft platform, where the indispensable tender is stowed when under way, is transformed into a relaxation area and a great location for plenty of nautical entertainment.

This imposing Du Toit Yacht Design incorporates three deck levels - and even four with the flybridge. The main deck, directly connected to the forward and aft cockpits, features a huge saloon and a fully equipped galley. The lower deck offers two cabins and two bathrooms in each hull. The deck above is reserved for the Owner, who enjoys a suite with office, dressing rooms and even a private terrace. The flybridge boasts a panoramic view, lounge area, bar and sunbathing area. The tender is housed aft, on the owner’s deck, and is launched using a hydraulic crane/davit system. The foredeck can accommodate two jet-skis handled by another dedicated crane. The choice of a moderate powertrain combined with a very large fuel capacity will enable the 870 to undertake transoceanic passages.

Italian design and Spanish construction: that’s the recipe announced for this new triple-decked catamaran. 2,700 square feet (250 m²): that’s the incredible area of the flybridge on this 86-foot multiyacht. The living space offered by the Smart Concept 87 is almost double the usual figure that you would expect to find on a catamaran of this length, and the massive flybridge gives an idea of the Space Concept that the designers have incorporated into this model. The living spaces and cabins have been designed in the spirit of a luxury hotel. As for the enginerooms, propulsion is provided by two MAN blocks putting out 1,200 HP apiece, but a hybrid drivetrain is also available. The builder announces an excellent quality/price ratio - a rather rare and offbeat preoccupation in the multiyacht market. Other models are offered – the Smart Concept 76 but also vessels designed for passenger transport.

Forever Green
The Ocean Eco 90 is the flagship of the range developed by Alva Yachts. This ambitious powercat is characterized by a modern design. But it is notably her very high bows, and the bulwark connecting them directly to the superstructure, that catch your eye. The foredeck clearly benefits from exceptional protection. As for the flybridge, this accommodates an outdoor saloon, a bar and a jacuzzi. Inside, of course, there is room for ultimate luxury and comfort. In terms of propulsion, this unit will be available all-electric or with a hybrid powertrain. This model is available in an Explorer version with a cabin and wheelhouse integrated into the upper deck – i.e., enclosed.

A Superyacht that’s Self-sufficient at Anchor

While Sunreef now offers almost all its models in an Eco variant, it has to be said that multiyachts over 80 feet opting for a hybrid formula are few and far between. And yet here we are with the WiderCat 92, a futuristic powercat previewed at the Cannes Yachting Festival. On board, we were impressed by the natural lighting provided by imposing glazed surfaces on the sides of the nacelle. Another highlight of this huge multiyacht is its cockpit, which can be converted into a beach club using fold-down bulwarks.
In the “enginerooms”, two 500 kW motors are powered by LiFePO4 batteries, guaranteeing a range of 27 miles at 6 knots.
And there’s 1,615 square feet (150 m²) of solar panels to ensure energy self-sufficiency at anchor. The builder has just announced a new model, the WiderCat 76.

This supercat was designed as a trans-oceanic vessel and is available in an Eco version.
The relaxation area on the main deck includes a large lounge area to port and a custom designed bar on the starboard side. Forward in the saloon, the multiyacht’s galley is equipped like a restaurant kitchen, including a cold room. A gym with a sea view and access to the large foredeck is also offered. The flybridge guarantees total comfort with numerous relaxation areas. The aft cockpit of the 100 Sunreef Power occupies the full width of the boat, just over 44 feet (13.5 m), offering a large dining area, sunbathing areas and a bar. Accommodation for ten guests is spread across five large cabins with en-suite bathrooms. Located in the port hull, the owner’s suite features a king-size bed with sea views.
