Oceanwalker S60e

A Hybrid Version of the S60 Holyday

The S60e is based on the S60 Holyday but swaps its internal combustion power for a pair of 150-kW electric motors optimized to ensure a cruising speed of 7 to 8 knots. T-2000 Voyager

The T-2000 Voyager is an all-weather powercat dedicated to exploration and extreme sailing. To begin with, its performance is particularly breathtaking: over 50 knots of top speed and a record range of 3,000 miles at 9 knots. The T-2000’s hull combines bows that are wave-piercing in their lower section, a traditional slant above, and optional foils, visible through a glass floor. 32 units have already been built, and for a 60-foot powercat, that’s a more than respectable result from a commercial point of view. This model, produced in Taiwan, features a relatively classic design, very motoryacht-like, with inclined bows and almost enclosed flybridge - a true upper deck in a way. Note that you can opt for an open flybridge and, as of this year, the Portuguese deck configuration, open saloon, and owner’s cabin on deck are also available. Construction and finish are all completed to a very high standard. The Horizon PC60 can be customized on request.

An Electric Powercat with Two or Three Decks

Developed using the Silent 60 as a base, the 62 has gained 35” of extra hull length, but is above all, the brand’s first model to be able to have three deck levels: cabins in the hulls, central nacelle, and flybridge. This is, of course, covered by a vast T-Top, which not only provides protection but, above all, is suitable for installing an optimal surface area of solar panels. The yard therefore goes a step further than the classic open fly version as this third level can also be converted into a closed saloon or owner’s suite.
The drivetrain chosen for this model is identical to that of the Silent 60: despite its displacement now approaching 40 tons, the 62 is capable of covering 100 nautical miles in 100% electric mode - at reduced cruising speed, of course. A kite can also be deployed for longer passages on favorable points of sail.

A Foiling Catamaran in Aluminum

Bering powercats take up the “exploration” design dear to the shipyard, with high, very straight bows, a thick nacelle, a solid helm station and a flybridge adorned with a T-Top. The BCs manage to reconcile this rugged look with beautiful outdoor living spaces – 1,335 square feet (124 m²) for the BC60. The inverted windshield at the helm frees up maximum space forward for a full saloon, while the flybridge extends well aft, effectively protecting the large aft cockpit. Highly modular, the Bering BC60 is available with 4, 5 or 6 cabins, depending on your needs. The flybridge can also be opened or closed.
Propulsion is provided by two 425 HP Cummins QSB 6.7 motors. Thanks to a foiling system, maximum speed is announced at 14 knots and a cruising speed of 10 knots. The shipyard is forecasting a range of 3,300 nautical miles, which should suffice.

Aboard this long-distance cruiser, the emphasis has been placed on controlling fuel consumption, and this has led to increasing the range to over 3,500 nm. The Iliad 62 is therefore capable of ocean passage-making: with a bridgedeck clearance of 3’9” (1.15 m), it also reflects an architectural design optimized for comfort in the open sea. Class 6 Power

Hybrid, Full Electric or Foils?

O Yachts, based in Latvia, offer a power version of their Class 6 sailboat. After two years of sea trials, the builder has validated the original “Smart Hybrid” powertrain (the builder’s GTS version). In other words, an electric engine in one hull, a diesel engine in the other. The idea is to take advantage of all the benefits of electric propulsion - no pollution, no noise pollution, the possibility of sailing in protected areas - and of the longer offshore range guaranteed by the diesel propulsion. The fineness of the hulls, combined with a displacement of 13 t (28,650 lbs), ready to sail, thanks to the composite/carbon construction, allows for minimal consumption: one liter (just over ¼ US gallon) per nautical mile at 9 knots and half that at 7 knots! An eSolar version with two electric motors and a Foil version with powerful ICE propulsion of 2 x 300 to 600 HP to reach 30 knots are also available.

Vandal 60

An Adjustable Foil for Greater Range

The Multihulls World community is already familiar with the Dutch brand Vandal Marine (see our test of the Vandal 46 in MW196), which also builds a 50 and this brand new 60 that we are presenting here. The shipyard specializes in rugged aluminum powercats and was approached by customers seeking a larger model. The Vandal 60 is available in a Chase version with compact superstructures and an Explorer version with more complete interiors.
With its inboard engines (two Volvo IPS) or four outboard motors (600 HP Mercury V12s), the Vandal 60 can reach speeds of up to 48 knots. An adjustable foil is capable of supporting 35% of the vessel’s weight, which improves seakeeping and reduces fuel consumption.

The GR63 guarantees a cruising speed of 7 knots and a top speed of 18 knots thanks to a pretty wide range of technical solutions - fuel cells (up to 2 x 40 kWh), high efficiency wind generators (2 x 10 kW), a large surface area of solar panels (14 kWp), powerful electric motors and, of course, a large battery bank (between 80 and 270 kWh). MC63p Offshore

This racy powercat picks up on some of the design elements from the MC60, such as the angled deck edge, and the aft-set nacelle/bimini assembly. But the hulls, in the forward section, still gain in freeboard and feature a second chine. The trampoline disappears, replaced by a rigid deck. The MC63p adopts high-tech construction: carbon/foam/epoxy on all levels to obtain a rigid and lightweight platform. Two 875 horsepower engines provide a cruising speed of 20 knots, and 36 knots top speed thanks to the addition of semi-foils. The interior has been particularly well thought-out and comes in three versions, with three or four cabins. Large windows - panels and doors - are retractable in order to completely decompartmentalize the nacelle in fine weather. Two flybridge configurations are available. The MC63p Tourer, that features a reduced freeboard and less powerful motors, is also on offer: this version is derived from the former 59p.

Moon 60 Power

Motorized Version of the 60 Sail

 
 
Following the Moon 60, an ultra-comfortable sailing catamaran that was offered three years ago, the Polish boatbuilder has produced a power version that’s based on the same platform. With XXL freeboard and generous superstructures, not dissimilar in spirit to the former Supreme range from Sunreef. Nonetheless, the yard offers a number of options that give its powercat an extraordinary range, such as increasing fuel tank capacity to 1,685 US gallons (6,000 liters). A wide choice is available in the engine compartments, with 225, 500 or 715 HP motors. A hybrid version also features in the catalog. Moon Yacht has also unveiled an MO 45 that incorporates a new Sport Line range and an ambitious 98½-foot (30-meter) 100 Power. Moon Yacht has also unveiled a 90-foot (27.4 m) version, the 9Ty.

Has the winning recipe for the Serenity 64 become a genuine classic? American marketing and Turkish production. The designers chose to offer a hybrid engine combining two electric and two internal combustion engines: a reassuring and, ultimately, environmentally friendly choice. While the layout is fairly traditional, much attention has been paid to its quality. But what amazed us was the ingenious rigid bimini entirely covered with solar panels, which lowers to the point of almost covering the huge flybridge to reduce air draft and/or windage.

The aim of the M8 is to offer features comparable to those of an 80-foot monohull yacht, and following our test, we can confirm that this is certainly the case. It’s clear that a great deal of effort has also gone into the design, the materials used, and the quality of finish, such as the access to the flybridge from inside, surrounded by glass to avoid breaking the view, the bar between the two aft openings and the hydraulic platform that can be used as a terrace at the same level as the cockpit. While the M8 isn’t a semi-custom powercat, various options, such as having the galley down, will allow this new model to be personalized. The shipyard is also taking a step towards respecting the environment with a Silent Yacht option: a lithium battery bank combined with solar panels will allow the crew to spend the night aboard without having to resort to running the generator.

Mylius, a renowned Italian builder, is offering their first motor catamaran. This is a Ceccarelli Yacht Design project, with interiors designed and developed by Parisotto + Formenton. The powercat looks to be very luxurious, with the bulwark sculpted out along the midships section of the deck, lightening the overall silhouette, while offering maximum glazed surface area for the nacelle. The inverted bows are at a steep angle at the top, so that the deck itself starts relatively far back. This configuration ensures good weight centering and will limit pitching. Close to the waterline, the chine should limit spray effects. The 66 will be equipped as standard with a pair of Volvo IPS700 engines, each rated at 550 HP.

Valder Sprint 20s

A Powercat for Modern Adventurers

When New Zealand offshore powerboat racer Wayne Valder decided to take an interest in building a cruising powercat, the result was always going to be a (very) fast machine! His quest led him to one of the big names in high-performance leisure catamarans, Roger Hill, who designed a large 67-foot (20 m) catamaran equipped with a self-stabilizing foil system. This powercat was then built in a foam/carbon/epoxy sandwich and fitted with a powerful drivetrain (2 x 1,300 HP) to reach 45 knots. Cruising speed is between 18 knots - the speed at which the foils start to work - and 30 knots, where range is still well north of 1,000 miles. The layout can be customized according to the Owner’s wishes, as can the deck layout: the flybridge version can even accommodate a (small) helicopter, though a Sedan version also features in the catalog

The Chinese-American yard have clearly got the luxury yachting sector in their sights with this imposing 70-footer. Entirely designed thanks to CFD (computational fluid dynamics), the Aquila 70 is designed with bulbous bows and is optimized for speeds from 12 to 27 knots, but also comfort under way, with very good stability. The owner’s cabin, in the forward rostrum, occupies the full available width. Four other cabins are located in the hulls - plus two crew cabins in the forepeaks. Launched in 2021, the 70 replaced the yard’s former best-seller from the 2010’s which had been built in 15 examples – quite an achievement 10 years ago. At 5 feet (1.5 m) more in the beam, the new 70 Sunreef Power fits into Sunreef’s flagship power range which includes the 60, the 80 and the 100. This new unit is luxuriously appointed to accommodate up to 8 guests in 4 cabins – one being a suite dedicated to the owner. The drivetrain of hull #1 featured twin 850 HP motors compared to 2 x 300 HP as standard, though this model is also available in the ECO version with electric motors. The full deck allows you to take advantage of all the available space.
