In its 15 years of existence, the International Multihull Show has established itself as the essential meeting place for all those who love sailing on two or three hulls. The event is firmly anchored in La Grande-Motte in the South of France and remains the only nautical gathering of new boats exclusively reserved for multihulls. The show continues to grow steadily, with a 19% increase in attendance last year. As for the multihulls on offer, relatively stable in volume with 66 cruising models presented (51 sailboats and 15 multipowers), it can boast a record number of 20 new models - 7 World Premieres, 5 European Premieres, 1 French Premiere, 7 IMS Premieres - presented in this article. But what’s the big new feature for the 2025 edition? The creation of a space dedicated to multipowers. In short, as you can see, if there’s one boat show you simply shouldn’t miss, it’s this one!

Tricat 8.50

A Much-awaited Trimaran

WORLD PREMIERE
Tricat, which has specialized in the 30-foot folding trimaran since 2002, is launching its 850, replacing the valiant 25. Still folding, of course, this new trimaran is logically much more modern than its predecessor, with an added touch of comfort and agility. The lifting daggerboards are found on the floats, freeing up the central hull. As for the companionway hatch, this has 3 positions and can be fitted with a sprayhood and sun awning.
Inside, thanks to double chines, the 8.50 manages to offer rather decent headroom of 6 feet (1.82 m). There are proper berths, a fixed galley, heads and plenty of clever storage space.

Lagoon 38

The Real Replacement for the Lagoon 380

WORLD PREMIERE
Presented in VIP mode at the Lagoon shipyard in Bordeaux on March 12th, the smallest of the Lagoons will be unveiled to the public for the first time at the IMS. Can this eagerly awaited new model really take the place of the iconic Lagoon 380? In any event, this is an entry-level catamaran that already offers a lot by opening the way to offshore sailing and offering maximum comfort for its size. The very aft-set coachroof is reminiscent of the previous generation - and even more surprisingly, the self-tacking solent is once again back in service! In terms of real innovations, the exterior of the hull features a reveal to integrate - and protect - the large portholes. As for the sugarscoops, they offer maximum width to make for easy access when getting aboard and simply invite you to swim when at anchor.

Dragonfly 36

With its Three Inverted Bows, this is a Real Eye-catcher!

FRENCH PREMIERE
The Dragonfly 36 could well become a bestseller given the success it met with during its world premiere at boot Düsseldorf. This new model, like all Dragonflys, can be folded thanks to its Swing Wing system, and has taken two and a half years to develop. In terms of design, this all-new model is the first Dragonfly to feature three inverted bows - until now, the central hull has always retained a traditional bow shape. Unsurprisingly, this trimaran is available in both Touring and Performance versions, the latter having a rig 2 meters (6½ feet) taller. What’s more unusual is that the profile is offered in carbon on both models. Below deck, the new interior design features double cabins forward and aft, a separate bathroom, a fully equipped galley and a spacious saloon. The standard finish is in ash, with elm as an option. We’ve already made an appointment for a test sail.

Aventura 38

A Powercat Available in Sedan or Flybridge Versions

This year, STGI will be presenting not one but two new models, as the Aventura 38 will be available in La Grande-Motte in two versions - Sedan and Flybridge. Another Open version is currently being finalized. This powercat is therefore a modular platform. In both cases, there is a cockpit featuring a large aft platform and adjustable beach club-style bulwarks. The builder favors meticulous woodwork, a luxurious finish and the use of noble materials such as mirror-polished solid stainless steel and Corian, as well as perfectly crafted joinery. The engines selected range from 2 x 250 to 370 HP in the inboard version (Yanmar). Enough to get this machine flying, with 30 knots in sight for the Open version (lighter), but the energy transition hasn’t been overlooked either, with a dual electric drivetrain of 2 x 100 kW also available.

C-Cat 38

An Assertive Offshore Character

 
Following its world premiere in Miami in February, the C-Cat 38 is finally being unveiled to the public in Europe. This model could be summed up as a lengthened and revised version of the 37, but we’ve discovered that this new vintage is much more than that... for a start, the hulls are two feet longer - not one. The architects at Marc Lombard Design, who predicted an appreciable 0.9 knot speed gain over the 37 in 10 knots of wind, were not wrong, as hull #1, in the hands of Massimo Guardigli and Flavia Proietti (owners of this catamaran and managers of Comar Yachts), came first in the ARC 2024 Multihull B category.
In terms of changes, a comfortable aft bench and a 35 cm (14 in) longer table have been added. New features include composite davits and steering wheels, while the bowsprit and bimini are in carbon. Accommodation ranges from 2 to 4 cabins with 2 bathrooms. The cockpit can be fully enclosed with removable fabric or composite panels. This option doubles the floor space of the saloon.

Seawind 1170

Small but Designed for Heading Offshore

EUROPEAN PREMIERE
Compared to the 1190, the 1170 offers much greater comfort - and an extra 3 tons of weight that logically comes as the cost. The deck layout features two helm stations at the after end of the hulls. The sail plan is somewhat restricted by the self-tacking jib, though this has the advantage of further simplifying maneuvers. The three-section, pivoting bay window provides excellent circulation between the cockpit and the nacelle. In the port hull, the owner’s cabin offers a beautiful queen-size double berth, set athwartships. The first Seawind 1170 was produced in a new factory in Turkey - the manufacturer’s first commercial objective is to establish this new model on the European market. Read the full test in MW196.

Yot 41

A Second, Very Convincing Powercat

IMS PREMIERE
Aboard the big sistership to the Yot 36, the elegant J&J Design signature is evident in the appearance, as are the well-defended hulls, whose central tunnel provides a highly effective lift/dampening effect in bigger seas as we were able to confirm in the course of our test. This time, the builder has opted for a bowrider-type central circulation with a forward door, to maximize the nacelle’s width and take advantage of an exterior saloon. The central living area is protected by a wraparound windshield and a T-top. This is where you’ll find the helm station, of course, but also the galley and saloon, and the two symmetrical cabins are located in the hulls.

A Pleasing, Modern Design

 
The Dracan 42, launched by a dynamic team based in Poland, draws on the expertise of the builder Model Art, and was presented in model form at boot Düsseldorf 2024 before the public got the chance to discover it in a world premiere “at home” in July at the 5th edition of the Polboat Yachting Festival. This new powercat has now gone on to challenge - among others - the Makai 37 and the YOT 41 in Cannes, with a few key features: the modern design of this semi-open hull is unmistakably successful, and the carefully designed layout, with 2, 3 or 4 cabins, will adapt to any program. The deck layout is ideal for relaxation, with large sun loungers aft and a forward cockpit.

Lagoon 43

An Opening Bulwark and an XXL Owner’s Cabin

The Lagoon 43 sports a mast stepped further forward than that of the 42, along with an overlapping genoa. At the stern, the bulwark is cut out to ensure direct access to the quay when the catamaran is moored alongside. On deck, the 43 gains a forward cockpit compared to the 42. The helm station remains raised on the port side but is now accompanied by a U-shaped bench seat rather than a simple sunlounger. Inside, the builder has designed an ingenious modular table that can straddle the nacelle and cockpit while providing seating for 12. A large opening hatch is installed in the forward face of the nacelle, not unlike the one on the very first Bali, the 4.5. The forward volume of the hulls has been optimized to increase sleeping capacity - in the Owner’s version, the bed is installed forward and there is a proper desk, like you would have at home. The 4-cabin version offers all equivalent volumes.

The Excess 13 is undoubtedly one of the most eagerly awaited World Premieres at La Grande-Motte... this model is indeed unlike any other, starting with the fact that it bears a somewhat risky name – but we love it! More seriously though, the main new thing about this catamaran is the signature it bears. The Lombard design team has been at work here, in collaboration with Jean-Marc Piaton for the interior design. The first images highlight a nacelle with contained volume - as evidenced by the very wide side-decks - a galley that opens onto the cockpit, and fold-down. Also noteworthy are the futuristic design of the davits and the imposing span of the folding helm benches. Top marks for the rainwater recovery system installed on the coachroof, and the cabin doors that double as closet doors. The Excess 13 will be available in 3- and 4-cabin versions with standard or Pulse Line rigs.

In the four-cabin version, all berths lie athwartships. This modern catamaran also features a half-flybridge on the starboard side and a helm station at mid-height, ahead of which is the sail maneuvering station on the coachroof. The powertrain offered by the yard is either internal combustion or electric.

Seawind, based initially in Australia and then in Vietnam, is well established in the 35 to 42-foot catamaran market with almost 800 examples built, mainly delivered to the United States, Asia and Australia. This left the European market, now within reach thanks to the creation of a new factory in Izmir, Turkey. The 1370, much lighter than most of her competitors, she is intended to be more powerful while being able to accept a large payload. The design is very contemporary with strongly inverted bows - a break with the smaller models – except for the Seawind 1170.

Having made its worldwide premiere appearance at Annapolis, the replacement for the Leopard 45 is now making its European premiere at the IMS. This new model includes (as an option) an electric drivetrain – a big first for the brand. As for the rest of the catamaran, the 46 retains all the brand’s hallmarks - forward door with coachroof overhang and mini exterior saloon in front of the mast, mid-height helm and maneuvering station, and a flybridge. The opening between the nacelle and cockpit is much wider than on the 45, with the idea being to offer an open configuration that doesn’t compromise the comfort of a closed layout (for nighttime or bad weather). Inside, there are 3, 4 or 5 cabins. Great options include the lifting platform, the taller rig and the performance sails.

Catamarans constructed using thick aluminum are in short supply on the market, so we’re delighted to present a brand-new model just arrived from Tunisia, the Tortue 147. The name, meaning tortoise or turtle in French, is obviously not linked to performance, but rather to on-board comfort. Indeed, the imposing superstructures should offer exceptional living space for a catamaran that’s under 50 feet. The hull has two specific features: a bulbous bow is grafted onto each side to dampen pitching, and the stern is particularly sleek. Here again, the architects’ aim was to provide the most stable platform possible, including longitudinally. Two 1,200-liter (317-gallon) ballast tanks are also provided aft. Long keels and rudder skegs allow you to take the ground.

Unveiled at its world premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show a few months ago, the Aquila 50 Yacht is now being seen for the first time in Europe. This powercat positioned between the 42 and the 54 - not forgetting the 44, which will remain in the catalog for the time being. The new design features a break in the deck line - the forward two-fifths are clearly taller. In addition to creating a new visual signature for the brand, this elevation allows the forward sections of the catamaran to be better defended, while offering XXL volume to the forward owner’s cabin – this, in fact, occupies the entire available beam.
As part of a complete restructuring of the Aquila Power Catamarans distribution network, the 50 is already eyeing up the European market with an understated interior design that we find very successful.

In the spirit of their R4, Dutch builder Vaan Yachts are offering a 49-foot catamaran, now being presented to the public for the very first time. With construction still in recycled aluminum, this model is built using a maximum of recyclable materials that have sometimes already been recycled themselves, and/or are biosourced. Propulsion is provided by electric motors. The main innovation of the R5 is that there’s an option to choose a short or longer coachroof: the “Life-Aboard” version allows for a saloon of 320 sq ft (30 m²). In good weather, this area can be largely opened up. On the foredeck, you can opt for a lounge space or a large sunbathing area.

With the Seaview 50 and 59, Chinese yacht builder HeySea now offers a range of comfortable catamarans. The 56 - the first model ordered in 2021 - was launched with a very original set of blue sails. Now lengthened, it has become the Seaview 59. The somewhat modest area of the sail plan is particularly noteworthy in relation to the displacement: the sail area to weight ratio is 5.14 m²/t, whereas a catamaran is considered to be high- performance when this value exceeds 10. The aim is therefore to provide a fully-equipped living platform whose finishing standards are on a par with those of luxury living ashore. No less than 5 layouts are available, featuring 4 to 6 cabins.

The biggest of the Balis is impressive to say the least! Having an integral deck instead of a trampoline means being able to offer both a forward cockpit and a real beach club area at the stern - connected to a hydraulic platform - but also optimal rigidity. To keep weight under control, the yard has used Catana technology, implementing carbon structural bulkheads. In terms of outline, the new 60-foot model, as ever signed by VPLP, presents a silhouette relatively similar to that of the 55, except that the sail plan uses the overlapping genoa that’s returned to fashion thanks to the 51. The main innovation on deck concerns the aft cockpit, literally transformed into a beach club by eliminating the traditional bench seat. This enormous surface area is further enlarged by an aft platform and fold-down bulwarks. As for relaxation space, the forward cockpit and huge flybridge, equipped with a full galley, are not to be outdone. For the interior, the designers have managed to ensure totally flush-decked circulation from one cockpit to the other, including of course the nacelle - a floor without steps, and that changes everything!

You like innovative multihulls? You’re in for a treat with the ModX 70! This new 100% renewable energy cruising catamaran is indeed equipped with the latest generation technologies allowing it to manage without fossil-based energy: there will be no generator on board. To achieve this feat without jeopardizing safety, the ModX 70 designers decided to launch a catamaran large enough to support a very powerful battery bank (230 kWh in fact!) while increasing the potential area of the solar panels - it stretches to 750 square feet (70 m²). The two motors are capable of a 100-mile range. The fully automated rig is perhaps the most amazing feature as the two retractable carbon masts - one on each hull - each support a 1,345 sq ft (125 m²) inflatable wing. The build involved using 38% biosourced epoxy resin, 40% recycled PET foam, flax fiber and cork.

Anniversary: Multihulls World is Celebrating its 40th Birthday!

Like every year, everyone on the Multihulls World team will be at our booth for the show – at Booth H2-38 - come and join us as we celebrate the magazine’s 40th Anniversary. The specialist magazine for multihulls and multipowers was first published in 1985 in French, before also being published in English from 1990. Back then, the cruising multihull fanbase was much smaller – today, we can see how incredibly successful the formula has been!

Shoreside at the IMS Industry Professionals at your Service


The show organizers have set up vast exhibition areas ashore, in sheltered marquees, where you’ll be able to meet many specialists who can help you design, buy, equip, refit or insure your multihull. The now traditional “design area” has become an exceptionally rich discussion spot. Here, you can meet not only the most renowned naval architects, but also the young start-ups you’ll need to keep an eye on!
Another essential section is the equipment area. This is the place where you’ll be able to find everything you need for your multihull or her crew, from electronics to safety, including rigging or sails... You’ll also find specialists in financing and insurance.
