“With the north-easterly monsoon, which blows at between 5 and 20 knots depending on the day, this passage promises to be quite simple. There are numerous islands south of Phuket, with wild anchorages which can sometimes be busy with the incessant comings and goings of tourists; we have the choice. As for us, we are going to do a mixture – a stopover in the north-west at Ko Lantha to take advantage of the massages on the beach, then Ko Muk, where we are going to anchor in a little creek not far from the famous Tunnel cave, which after 100 meters swimming in the dark, leads to a small lagoon enclosed in the rock and open to the sky. We are then going to escape to Ko Rok Nok; the water there is wonderfully clear. Ptit Filou is going to anchor between the two islands, above an aquarium... We will then be heading in the direction of the Butangs, a paradise for diving, with even clearer water, before reaching Ko Lipe in the south, where we will once again find restaurants, provisions and liveliness. We will then be 20 miles from Langkawi, a peaceful island with no stress, where only the monkeys come to bother you, to steal a packet of cookies or a can of drink. The archipelago of course offers wonderful cruising between its islands, with lots of shelter and anchorages.”
