This ambitious Chinese-built multihull was launched as the Seaview 56 in 2021 and then modified to become the Seaview 59 – this was the model we got to discover at the International Multihull Show at La Grande Motte. For its US premiere at Annapolis, the yard presented a Seaview 60, further lengthened by a foot. This model, dedicated to luxury charter features six cabins, marble and teak… Comfort, for sure, but note the modest area of the sail plan in relation to the displacement: the sail area to weight ratio is 5.14 m²/t, whereas a catamaran is considered to be high-performance when this figure exceeds 10. So, the aim here is to provide a fully equipped living platform whose finishing standards are on a par with those of luxury living ashore. No less than 5 layouts are available.

This 60-foot catamaran is a rather successful evolution of the previous – and imposing - Moon Yacht 60: the design of its superstructure is much more convincing and the new 60 offers exceptional overall volume for its size. The same goes for the sunbathing areas, which are absolutely gigantic. In this category, only the Sunreef 60 is able to compete with this model. This isn’t a totally insignificant comparison, because Moon Yachts also happen to be built in Gdansk, Poland, like Sunreef...

Wave 60

A Design as Bold as Ever

The unveiling four years ago of the Wave 50, designed and built in Poland, came as something of a surprise to fans of more “traditional” lines – the coachroof and flybridge, as if suspended above the hulls, were accompanied by an astonishing, arching roof structure running forward of the forestay attachment point. At the stern, a highly unusual black arch/hard-top stands out. The Wave 60 presented at the 2024 Genoa International Boat Show unveiled the same concept as its smaller sistership - with obviously greater comfort on board. Details such as the forward coachroof windows, which adopt an inverted slope, and the fine bows further emphasize the Wave signature.

The Sunreef 60 is undoubtedly reminiscent of her big sistership, the 80. The exterior lines bear close resemblance, as does the flybridge, the vertical side windows and the coachroof-bimini shape. As the 54 did with the 50, the Windelo 62 uses much of the same hull as the 58 to offer an even faster catamaran, capable of making way under sail from 4 knots of wind. In addition to the elongation of the particularly elegant hulls with their strongly inverted deck sheer on the aft third, the rig features a mainsail and a solent increased by 118 square feet (11 m²) and 75 square feet (7 m²) respectively. Since first being presented at the 2018 Cannes Yachting Festival, the MC60 has become the 62 without any serious changes, but that said, it remains a catamaran that’s as exclusive as ever. The nacelle is designed ‘open space’ in line with current trends, and as for the rest, the MC62 is nothing like the others: a very specific topside form, high-tech mast support strut to distribute the loads, tempered glass panes, sliding side windows, no forward beam, sail-trimming flybridge set aft... it’s impossible to remain indifferent! Since 1958, Argentinean architect German Frers has been designing prestigious racing yachts, but generally monohulls... This contribution in the field of multihulls therefore came as a bit of a surprise in 2014, when he designed the OE60 - he then produced the Ocean Explorer 72. The OE62 is perfectly balanced at the helm and offers a subtle compromise between performance and comfort. The manufacturer has opted for daggerboards to reduce the draft to 3 feet while ensuring excellent upwind capability. The forward door and the helm station at the foot of the mast are two formulas nowadays adopted by most manufacturers of speed catamarans. The Finnish shipyard’s manufacturing and finishing quality is exceptional.

Rapido 63

A Much Wider Nacelle than on the 60

The 53XS has been a real success, having shown that yes, it is possible to widen the upper part of a trimaran’s central hull without irreparably compromising its performance potential. In fact, although this new 63, which is directly derived from the 60, has a central hull that is just over a meter (3 feet) longer, it is mainly the nacelle that has been enlarged, with an extra 1½ meters (5 feet) of width compared to the Rapido 60. It should be noted that the modified 60 used by the crew of Sailing La Vagabonde had already benefited from an extra 50 cm (18”)... This feat has been achieved by combining a very pronounced chine in the hull topsides with a new deck layout incorporating a much wider coachroof and by carefully managed “excess weight”, meaning the 63 should be almost as fast as the 60.

Seen from ahead, between the hulls, the central longitudinal beam of the new Class 6 is intriguing… A never-before-seen structure called the Spine Concept: this configuration takes the forces of the rig, stiffens the chassis and guarantees safety and finesse during possible high-speed water-landings. The K6 will suit all programs - the 63-foot version will be ideal for blue water cruising with the family, while the 67-foot version is designed for sailing with a professional crew. Note that the difference between these two models is not simply a matter of lengthening or shortening the aft sugarscoop - rather, it’s in the middle of these all-carbon hulls where things are happening... we’ll find out more very soon. The designers have combined a lightweight platform with a sail plan that can be managed short-handed - furling boom, electric winches, hydraulic mainsheet traveler, etc.

Outremer 64

As a reminder, the Outremer 64 was the largest model in the range developed by Gérard Danson, and the 7X project ultimately did not come to fruition... But now here is the new 64, which should delight fans of blue water cruising who think big. In terms of design, note the sharply inverted bows, the plunging rib at the top of the hulls, the slight chine above the waterline, and the very large coachroof windows. The maneuvering stations have been optimized, as has the slope of the roof – and this allows the winches to be angled. Inside, there is plenty of space around the central island/galley, and there is a forward-facing control station/desk. The shipyard’s “My Free Space” concept is spread over two separate, modular and customizable areas: one is accessible from the cockpit, the other is located inside, offering different layout and style options.

Privilege Signature 650

With this 650, the team comprising Marc Lombard Yacht Design and Darnet Design have set out to reconcile design, performance and comfort. The deck plan, for starters, features flush side decks, a raised handrail and a foredeck that’s completely clear. The cockpit has been lowered to ensure a smooth connection with the nacelle. The (optional) hydraulic bathing platform allows you to easily launch a 1,325 lbs (600 kg) tender. As for the flybridge, this has been significantly enlarged compared to the 640, offering a large U-shaped lounge area with a table as well as the fully equipped helm station to starboard. The rig is more powerful - an additional 97 square feet (9 m²) being achieved – and the bows have become inverted. In the nacelle, the overall glazed area has been increased. The front windows have been set further forward, and their angle is now closer to the vertical.

Italian shipyard Comar Yachts set itself an ambitious goal with this all-carbon multihull presented at the recent Cannes Yachting Festival. It looks as though the project is being well carried out judging by the very attractive design - the two-tone coachroof and the design of the hatches are particularly successful. The possibilities for customization on the HH66 are almost endless, both inside and out. So, we won’t even be surprised to discover huge tillers on number 5 in the series, while an SCF version offers a helm station at the front of the nacelle. The perceived quality (composite manufacturing and fittings) of these all-carbon multihulls is spectacular. The speed potential is impressive, but the relative narrowness of the platform combined with an XXL air draft requires skill in the art of proportioning for sporty use in a breeze - a catamaran for connoisseurs! For once, the basis for this model is the power version, not the other way around.
The Sixty 5 is therefore the sailing version of the Sixty 7 powercat. Lagoon was keen to first complete its motorboat offering in this already growing market segment in 2018. This model features the same design as the larger Lagoon models and retains the suspended coachroof and the “cutout” at the top of the rear posts. But the most visible difference is, of course, the imposing rig capable of carrying 2,863 square feet (266 m²) of sail. On the other hand, the work that’s been done on the aft third of the hulls, rudders, and keels - the draft is 16”/40 cm more -is more discreet. McConaghy stole the show at Cannes with this first MC68 in a Flybridge version. Designed for making long passages in complete comfort with a crew, this model is capable of reaching double-digit averages, as evidenced by the numerous carbon elements incorporated into the construction and the deep daggerboards. At Port Canto, the MC68 set our mouths watering with its ultra-modern coachroof and its lines kept tight thanks to a continuous chine. You can see that the step in the deck - a McConaghy hallmark - is there, but it’s much more discreet than on the “smaller” models.

The Gunboat 68 was the first model to be “made in La Grande Motte”. She was launched at the very beginning of 2019. Her program? Racing and high-speed cruising. High-tech construction, curved daggerboards, interiors of pure luxury and multiple layout combinations, the “Guns” can be customized as desired. Other strong points: the maneuvering cockpit at the foot of the mast, inspired exterior lines and a generous sail plan - even playful with the bigger-mast version, such as on #1, Condor, that we had the chance to test. The yard has already produced eight of these all-carbon units. The iconic Gunboat 68 is available in a Voyager version with an optimized surface area in the nacelle.

This racy catamaran designed for fast blue water cruising was initially intended for series production by one of the well-known shipyards, but ultimately, the project has been taken on by Trimarine, based on the Tagus River near Lisbon, Portugal. The GP70, built with 80% epoxy carbon sandwich, manages to limit its displacement to 17.5 t. This large multihull was designed to offer the crew a very high level of self-sufficiency. Under sail, the GP70 delivered exceptional performance during our test.

The ECO version offers an innovative - and in-house - solar energy system: the solar panels are in fact fully integrated into the 70’s hulls, superstructure, mast and boom, covering a total surface area of 1,540 square feet (143 m²). In addition to these very light solar panels, which are nonetheless capable of producing up to 35.5 kWp, the 70 Eco is fitted with a particularly powerful battery bank (5.2 kg/kWh).

Launched in 2018 and with around 100 examples sold, the Allegria 67 is undoubtedly one of the most commercially successful 65 to 70-foot sailing catamarans on the market. In the eastern Mediterranean, many models are in charter, much to the delight of customers and professional crews alike... but now, after eight years of loyal service, the time has come to hand over to a new model! The FP70S (S for sail, as a powercat version is also planned) is scheduled to be launched in the spring. While the much-appreciated jacuzzi from the 67 will still be found on board, the foredeck has adopted a “hard” design at the expense of trampolines, and both the coachroof and hardtop have been optimized to house a large area of solar panels.
