The Big Departure for a Round-the-World Tour!
Having set sail from the Bay of Arcachon, France, on their Venezia 42 last July for a round-the-world trip, Pierre and Sylvie made several stops during which they were able to discover magnificent anchorages and explore several islands: Madeira, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, and finally the Cape Verde Islands. Then it was time for the big departure: heading west from Mindelo, on the island of São Vicente.

And that’s it, we’ve taken the plunge and set sail for the Caribbean! Just before leaving Mindelo, we had the pleasure of welcoming our friends and journalists from the TV show “Thalassa”, Cécile and Philippe, who interviewed us on July 5th. Some of you who are following our journey even contributed to the question-and-answer session ... There was a lot of excitement and fun during our departure for Guadeloupe. A huge thank you to the journalists, and it’s been a great pleasure to share this Atlantic crossing with Dan and Bobo! We’ve already been sailing for five days; time flies on board! Life is good with our two seasoned crew members. The sea was calm and there was little wind for the first two days. Since then, we’ve encountered steady trade winds and the gennaker has been put to use - our average speed has been 6-7 knots. Dan insisted on taking some photos of Kookaburra in the middle of the ocean, and his drone recovery was heroic!
