Cat’Leya is well known to the Multihulls World community, as we’ve followed this Lagoon 52’s round-the-world voyage through our Postcards and Cruising sections. We’ve got to say that for having been cruising for nine years, this catamaran has aged extremely well. 

Cabin charters were developed in the 1990s on large catamarans, but the luxury charter world, which is very (too?) exclusive, did not follow suit. Ponant, renowned for its luxury cruise ships, is (re)launching this concept, and it’s a perfect opportunity to discover fabulous places in a luxury yachting environment.

The Bordeaux-based manufacturer has just unveiled the first images of its forthcoming flagship powercat: a variation on the Eighty 2 currently in build, the Eighty 3 will obviously do without a rig and associated deck hardware but will be equipped with a larger powertrain.

Just look at multihulls sailing all over the world - especially on longer passages: many of them leave their mainsail stowed on the boom. In the event of a squall or big gusts, it’s not always so easy to reduce sail quickly and calmly. That’s why the idea of a furling mainsail is so attractive.
